Rooting for #JulianBraveNoisecat for his Oscar nominated documentary, #Sugarcane. I had the honor of eating with him at a table full of booksellers at #WinterInstitute in Denver last week. His debut memoir, drops this October and it weaves his family history and the coyote myths in a brilliant way.

Antidote is to shop indie and to use cash.

It took 2+ months to open three cards? SMH.

SO if you decide to shop local on Friday at Belmont Books, know that your money is staying in the local economy AND being used for a great cause (one that facists hate).

While the economic boycott is meant to show that we have power against the large corporations, it's still great to focus on small businesses and using cash (which small businesses love!), and in supporting us, we want to give back too.

As a reader, the stuff doesn’t motivate me.

Observations from an indie bookseller, some stuff motivates customers for pre-orders. Bookmarks, stickers, pins, maybe the art. But not quotes on fancy paper. I do hate keeping track though. At least paper can be put in the book. 3d objects are the worst

Small choices also include where to spend $$. Instead of Prime or WF, shop local. They may not miss your $$, but it will make a difference to the small local business.

Reading intentionally is a political act. Support queer BIPOC authors. Borrow their books or buy their books locally.

There is a long time customer, who did this last fall. She decided to "try" one. And let's just say, I've hand sold her well over a dozen titles in the last two months bc she is now HOOKED. She now raves about romances.

My guess is they are reading the belly button books. My belly button is so interesting and the book is now 400 pages.

The new romance bookstore, Lovestruck, is just lovely. They do have non-romance books, and imo, they stretch the definition of what's a romance. Like, it's great they have the book in there, but don't put it in the X trope section.
