Honestly, not really. There are so few international studentships about, at least at my institution, that they have to be absolutely stellar to be in with a chance. That said, other unis might still have them, and the best way of finding out is still to contact potential supervisors to find out

Yikes, scary that this needs to be said explicitly but definitely a good point

Note: Unfortunately funding for international students is currently terrible, so if you are an international student you'd need to have a good idea of funding mechanisms already. I know, it sucks.

If you're interested in the cognitive neuroscience of memory feel free to email me!

I do experimental psychology, brain imaging (fMRI and MEG) and a bit of modelling. Lab is doing stuff on forgetting, aging, schemas, and event boundaries, but we're not limited to that.

Thanks! In this case all reviewers from first round were very nice and provided useful comments (and I'm not just saying that because this is a public forum...)

My voyage to explore how Marshallese sailors find their way at sea without technology Scientists have been exploring the role that neuroscience plays in ocean navigation.

Lovely article in @uk.theconversation.com by Maria Ahmad who is doing her PhD research supported by @leverhulme.ac.uk in my lab on oceanic navigation in the Marshall Islands.

This is her coverage of our voyage to Aur atoll this summer:

It's been a while since I've had to sit on the floor of the train that is absolutely rammed because of an earlier train cancellation. Best get as comfy as possible for 2 hours of no proper seat

So happy to share our paper on the role of the hippocampus as a mismatch detector:
doi.org/10.1073/pnas...

We show that the hippocampus detects mismatches between ongoing experiences and episodic memories but not generalised schematic knowledge.

8x8 grid depicting the approach to stimulus creation. Feature pairs are on the axes and images are in the cells. The x-axis represents the high-level feature pairs: setting (green) and object (teal). For example, the first column of images all depict β€œtruck” (object) in β€œfield” (setting) rendered in various textures and patterns. The y-axis represents low-level feature pairs: texture (blue) and pattern (purple). For example, the first row of images all depict different objects and settings rendered as if drawn with crayon (texture) and containing large horizontal edges (pattern).

Excited to release the SPOT grid: a new image set that factorially crosses scene-object & texture-pattern pairings.

We hope these stimuli will be useful to researchers aiming to (partially) disentangle the contributions of lower- and higher-level visual features to behavior & brain activity.
