I’m a Mets fan. I submit that it really isn’t a rivalry for Mets fans. It matters a lot more to Phillies fans. Just a NYC-Philly/big brother-little brother thing. I hate the Yankees and Braves because those teams have mattered to us for decades. Phillies? 2007 aside, who cares?

Mitch Keller?

He can hit singles really well. He doesn’t walk, hit for power, steal bases, drive in runs, or field. He literally is a one-tool player and that tool has proven to be among the least valuable.

I like Linklater for that kind of day. Dazed and Confused or Everybody Wants Some (added bonus that it is about college baseball)

Feel like we likely have less power but more contact and better (career) RISP numbers. Which I am fine with. And seems like we could possibly be better defensively? Hard to know since Bo-Polanco never played those positions.

A month later, we seem to have settled on Baty as super-utility, Benge to play left, Robert in CF, Polanco and sometimes Vientos at 1b, no ace and not enough bullpen arms. C- offseason?

Yup, total panic move signing a guy who fills several needs. Admittedly, he is moving positions but from short to third is not as hard as some other shifts.

Ok so we now know Stearns just made it all up as he went this offseason. “Run prevention” does not equate to Baty and Bichette and Polanco all playing new positions.

Not really. You can judge a process. And this process has been poorly thought out.

Charley, when will you blame Stearns? When the #Mets are playing a five-man infield and two-man outfield as their base defense? At some point, the guy’s total lack of a plan for this offseason is on him.

Can I be mad at him for dropping Pete’s 40-110 production with no real plan to replace it other than “I hope Tucker will take a short-term deal and the Dodgers won’t outbid us?”

In a vacuum, missing out on Tucker is fine. In context, what exactly is the plan?

But in the meantime, the Dodgers have won consecutive titles, have the best odds of winning this year, and are rated to have the best farm system. So yeah, it’s unsustainable for the next 10 years. But they might have five more titles by then.

I expect the Mets to have a plan beyond “let the vets go and hope we can sign a free agent or two”. It is Jan 15th and we have no LF, no CF, no 1b (Polanco never played 1st), no ace and no 7th inning guy. We are relying on youngsters and refuse to extend any of the good ones. Worst possible combo.

Not plenty. Some. It is January 15. Bellinger and Bichette are the only two bats who will make any difference for them.

I am hoping he opts out because that likely means he was so good that we actually won something.

If it is a three-year deal, then the Mets are getting his age-29, 39, and 31 seasons. Not quite prime prime but pretty prime-y. Not sure why you don’t like Tucker but for me, he is a 5-win plug-in at LF who will make a dramatic difference

1. Not my money
2. Tucker is one of the 20 best players in baseball
3. 5 of the last 6 years, he’s played at least 85% of the games
4. Keeps him from the Dodgers

I love these kind of deals. Gives them the third big bat in the lineup they need and also leaves flexibility in case most of the prospects actually develop. Hope it actually comes to fruition.

What is not to get? Top 10 WAR the last five years

It could become a positive offseason. At this moment, you can’t claim it has been positive.
