I think that's exactly what they will do if he opts out. Which is part of the reason why I think they will work out a deal beforehand. I also think there are too many holes on this roster to fill that Cohen/Stearns won't want to create a new one by having to find a new closer.

I am not a Taylor Swift but have been absorbing her music over the past year because of my daughters. Personally, my fave is Tortured Poets Department because it was stark departure in style from her other albums and delved into deeper lyrical themes as well. I enjoyed the deconstruction vibe.

Personally, I'd keep Baty over Vientos. I think Vientos' problems are more than development. That doesn't mean he won't be a good player. Acuna and Mauricio are a different issue. I think Mauricio was hurt by coming back from injury and lack of playing time.

The pitching is the biggest question mark. It could partially be fixed with McLean and Sproat. Tong needs more time in the minors. But the problem is none of that is guaranteed. So we need to upgrade beyond just "our pitching lab can fix him" which seemed to be the approach last offseason.

It's on the coaching as well. But when is it on the coaching & when is it on the players? Vientos was raking with the same coaches last year. So why is it on the staff this year? He's been in the majors for 3 years & his defense is garbage. I know it's not just him, just the example that I gave.

I hear you. I just don't have any confidence in the other players. I'm not saying they should trade everyone, just that I don't think any of the other players on the roster are untouchable. For example, if another team thinks they can fix Vientos and we can get a good return. I'd trade him.

Since the offseason is 2 days away, here are my takes. Prioritize resigning Alonso and Diaz. The only untouchable are Lindor and Soto and the young SPs. I'd listen to trades for everyone else. Finally, fire the staff where needed. I'm not in the fire Mendoza camp yet, but I'm getting there #MetsSky
