The company has shown it doesnβt take our concerns seriously. In our last session, a rep. admitted that he wasnβt familiar with our latest proposal and said we were βmonkeying aroundβ by asking for adequate healthcare coverage and better retirement benefits.
04.12.2025 17:13 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Weβre fighting for a fair discharge policy.
Currently, guild members can be fired under a loophole that eliminates just-cause protections and effectively makes us at-will workers.
Weβre fighting for adequate parental leave.
The companyβs current paid parental leave plan? Only TWO WEEKS.
Why? The company argues it does not want a bifurcated leave system between guild and non-guild employees.
We agree. The company should develop an adequate plan for all.
Weβre fighting for annual raises that match the rapidly rising cost of living in our cities.
Miami/Phoenix saw dramatic cost of living increases from Dec. 2020 to Dec. 2024, jumping 27.9% and 25.4%, respectively.
Annual and merit raises, when given, have not kept pace.
After a full year of bargaining, the company still refuses to meet in the middle to address our basic needs. We launched a petition because we need help from our communities and readers.
Hereβs what weβre asking for. (π§΅β¬οΈ)
Staff from Phoenix New Times and Miami New Times are engaged in a fight with our parent company for fair wages, adequate parental leave, and the ability to continue effectively covering our communities.

5/ Miami and Phoenix need strong journalism β and that all starts with a strong contract for the people who make it happen.
Stand with us as we fight for the future of @phoenixnewtimes.com + @miaminewtimes.com β
4/ The removal of an βaesthetic judgementβ clause in our contract.
The vague, subjective standard lets management get rid of workers based on βaesthetic differences.β
No more firings without clear criteria.
3/ Modern work standards.
From remote work options to up-to-date equipment, weβre pushing for a contract that reflects the realities of 21st century journalism.
2/ Adequate parental leave.
Our current contract gives full-time employees just *2 weeks* of paid parental leave.
In 2025, thatβs not just inadequate β itβs unacceptable.
1/ Fair pay that keeps up.
Since our last contract in 2021, inflation has surged β yet our pay has only risen 2% a year.
Weβre demanding wages that reflect the real cost of living.
Hey yβall!
Since December, weβve been negotiating a new contract with Voice Media Group. Today, we returned to the bargaining table.
Hereβs what weβre fighting for (π§΅):
Back at the bargaining table today w/ Voice Media Guild (@vmgguild.bsky.social) to negotiate our new contract.
Iβve changed my profile pic in solidarity with my fellow guild members as we continue to fight for a fair deal β
