My friend’s summer house bordered Pishe Lake. One evening, the object rose from the water and drifted toward him. When close, its outer shell opened and a horizontal ray of light shot out, pulsing from gold to silver white. It was so dazzling that my friend could only look at it from the side.

Between the years of 1056 and 1063, a flying object—round and shiny like a pearl—came to Yangzhou City and was seen by many. It flew at night and retreated to local waters during day. First at Tianchang County Marsh and later in both Pishe and Xinkai Lake.

Many things shocked John and I as we were finishing Stars That Pause: 2,000 Years of UFO Encounters & Lore, but the sheer number of classical accounts that match up to anonymous experiences today is wild!
