Questioning, overworked angry astronomer of many trades, science journalist, writer, visual artist, GM, gamer and nocturnal geek who speaks her mind every time.
And this is (one of the many reasons) why I don't like AI. Tried to get some simple support and... well, the green boxes are my comments.

"Only read the Martian this far but... I guess I do. I like science fiction." said I.
"Oh! Cool! Who are your favourite authors? You like science fiction films as well?" he said. And then the rest of the journey was over before I knew it. ๐
On the train to Stockholm a few years ago, I got an unwelcome seat mate (meaning that I had to remove my stuff). He picked up "Artemis" by Andy Weir and noticed me staring at it (I had a copy at home but not the time to pick it up)
26.10.2025 00:05 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Um... That's weird. I actually think that the problem was with him. I'm pretty much dumbfounded. "SF for males only" belongs to the 50s. I've never experienced anything like that.

25.10.2025 17:09 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Yup! This sucks. I even tried connecting with an ethernet cable but as that didn't work, it is indeed an IPv6 problem... BAH!

25.10.2025 16:12 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0โCaptain, the more we talk about it, the less it seems like an accident.
โOh come on! Don't tell me you've never wondered what the big red button is for. Look at it as a... a scientific experiment! Yeah!
โYou could have just read the bloody manual!
Well, I've been extremely fascinated by chemistry (especially the very elements) and I did take a course in nuclear chemistry during the pandemic so... maybe you'll become amused sometime. :D
25.10.2025 15:08 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Right, if far enough away, that could work. Actually being inside the corona of a star, though... not so much. There are no metals that won't evaporate at such temperatures, but I would like to find out the qualities of such a metal, if it had existed. Periodic table, here I come!
25.10.2025 13:33 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0the Kepler's engineer could probably come up with something like a catapult for the trash pinball but what would we need to create a shield that could manage 30 000ยฐC? Now that's a challenge! And now I must write an actual story about these crazy guys and their everyday physics solutions...
24.10.2025 22:14 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0No seriously (sorry if I'm being boring) but to make up even the most crazy sci-fi ideas I need to give it at least a little bit of a launch pad in the actual laws of physics and you gave me something interesting to think about so...
24.10.2025 22:14 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Yes. As a matter of fact I do dare that. To you and everyone else ๐. I mean, come on, the enegry shield thing is a difficult one but trash pinball - that one is easy and you don't need a lot to accomplish that, but the laws of physic will still reign! ๐
24.10.2025 22:01 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0(still talking about resisting 30 000ยฐC, btw)
24.10.2025 18:46 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Hypothetically sure, but then there are the laws of physics...
24.10.2025 18:02 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0But with the shields, that would be a serious matter of energy.
24.10.2025 17:43 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Eeeh... shields are like explosives?
24.10.2025 17:13 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Just let gravity do what it does best.
24.10.2025 16:43 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Hahaha, indeed. We all know of the dangers of space debris!
24.10.2025 16:42 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Well, I'm not sure that any shields would be able to resist temperatures around 30 000ยฐC, though...
24.10.2025 16:41 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0โAldrich, I've been thinking.
โWhat a refreshing change of routine, captain.
โSince the garbage is now in stable orbit around the station, all you have to do is to steer us closer to the star and the garbage will burn up upon entry in its corona!
โYes. And so would we.
#SciFiFri
I know what you mean. I'm not a fan of noisy bars either. If I go out, I want to be able to actually talk to my company, preferably without wearing earplugs.
