On the train to Stockholm a few years ago, I got an unwelcome seat mate (meaning that I had to remove my stuff). He picked up "Artemis" by Andy Weir and noticed me staring at it (I had a copy at home but not the time to pick it up)

Um... That's weird. I actually think that the problem was with him. I'm pretty much dumbfounded. "SF for males only" belongs to the 50s. I've never experienced anything like that.

På våra breddgrader är somrarna ljusa som det är, precis som vintrarna är mörka så att hålla på med att fortsätta byta tid fram och tillbaka bara för att någon för över 200 år sedan tyckte att det var en bra idé. Börja jobba 7 eller 9? Båda är för tidigt för min smak. ;)

Jag är för normaltid året om. Det skall vara mörkt på kvällen/natten så att kroppen kan lagra melatonin (om man inte föredrar att stanna uppe och titta på stjärnor när de väl är synliga).

Right, if far enough away, that could work. Actually being inside the corona of a star, though... not so much. There are no metals that won't evaporate at such temperatures, but I would like to find out the qualities of such a metal, if it had existed. Periodic table, here I come!

the Kepler's engineer could probably come up with something like a catapult for the trash pinball but what would we need to create a shield that could manage 30 000°C? Now that's a challenge! And now I must write an actual story about these crazy guys and their everyday physics solutions...

No seriously (sorry if I'm being boring) but to make up even the most crazy sci-fi ideas I need to give it at least a little bit of a launch pad in the actual laws of physics and you gave me something interesting to think about so...

Yes. As a matter of fact I do dare that. To you and everyone else 😉. I mean, come on, the enegry shield thing is a difficult one but trash pinball - that one is easy and you don't need a lot to accomplish that, but the laws of physic will still reign! 😀
