Yet, despite these events, we’re heartened important prevention, treatment, recovery, & harm reduction work saving lives in communities. As Nora Volkow shared, “we cannot continue to neglect prevention, and that means we need to provide the resources to support it.” We couldn’t agree more.

What has historically been a powerful event with diverse political perspectives collaborating and sharing ideas to combat the opioid epidemic, had a distinctly partisan and uncollaborative tone.

This year's conference had a noticeably different tone, with explicit focus on border security and the “war on drugs.” Many partisan political speakers were added as plenary speakers with no Q&A opportunity.

At today’s Rx Summit, one of our staff was among the attendees removed from RFK’s plenary for simply clapping in support of a conference attendee yelling “cuts kill.” We stand by the right of our staff to peacefully express their views. Silencing dissent erodes dialogue and democracy. 🧵⤵️
