'We were scared': Man recalls the night he nearly launched a nuclear missile In 1974, Lt. Colonel Randall Lanning manned the launch controls that could deploy nuclear weapons in the event of a Soviet attack. He looks back at one night that's still etched in his memory.

In a Story Corps segment broadcast on @npr.org’s Morning Edition earlier today, former USAF Lt. Col. Randall Lanning vividly recalled the time in 1974 his Launch Control Center unexpectedly received a valid Emergency Action Message to prepare to launch the 10 Minuteman II ICBMs under its control.

A war foretold: how the CIA and MI6 got hold of Putin’s Ukraine plans and why nobody believed them Drawing on more than 100 interviews with senior intelligence officials and other insiders in multiple countries, this exclusive account details how the US and Britain uncovered Vladimir Putin’s plans ...

I've been working on this for ages in various countries: the story of the intelligence buildup to Putin's 2022 invasion. How did the US and Britain find out so much, and why were Europe and Ukraine sceptical.

It's a long one:

The Trump administration’s lawless killing spree continues with three more maritime strikesβ€”two in the Pacific and one in the Caribbean.

11 more people reportedly killed.

No amount of terrorism talk renders this slaughter lawful.
