'We were scared': Man recalls the night he nearly launched a nuclear missile
In 1974, Lt. Colonel Randall Lanning manned the launch controls that could deploy nuclear weapons in the event of a Soviet attack. He looks back at one night that's still etched in his memory.
In a Story Corps segment broadcast on @npr.orgβs Morning Edition earlier today, former USAF Lt. Col. Randall Lanning vividly recalled the time in 1974 his Launch Control Center unexpectedly received a valid Emergency Action Message to prepare to launch the 10 Minuteman II ICBMs under its control.

Late on Feb. 16, at the direction of #SOUTHCOM commander Gen. Francis L. Donovan, Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted three lethal kinetic strikes on three vessels operated by Designated Terrorist Organizations. Intelligence confirmed the vessels were transiting along known narco-trafficking routes and were engaged in narco-trafficking operations. Eleven male narco-terrorists were killed during these actions, 4 on the first vessel in the Eastern Pacific, 4 on the second vessel in the Eastern Pacific, and 3 on the third vessel in the Caribbean. No U.S. military forces were harmed.

The Trump administrationβs lawless killing spree continues with three more maritime strikesβtwo in the Pacific and one in the Caribbean.
11 more people reportedly killed.
No amount of terrorism talk renders this slaughter lawful.

It's time to make an X-it: Senator Simons questions the Canadian government's continued use of X
I had the opportunity to rise during Senate Question Period this week, to ask about the Canadian government's continued commitment to using X for official communications - and about their failure to use sites such as Bluesky and Mastodon. What do you think? #cdnpoli #Canada #Grok #X #Bluesky
