California City mayor told me that he had proposed to the company that they turn the former prison into a training academy for trade careers but CoreCivic decided to wait until after the election to see which way the political winds would blow.

In the week ending Feb. 22, unemployment claims in D.C. rose 25% from the week prior and were four times as high as one year earlier β€” and that’s only the beginning.

DOGE came for the research and statistics arm of the U.S. Department of Education today, declared "fraud" and "waste" and abruptly terminated about $900M in contracts. A lot of what we know about America's schools comes from the data this agency collects. New reporting with @jodiscohen.bsky.social

Shoutout to the Los Angeles Times reporters who are doing essential journalism under very difficult circumstances.

They’ve dropped their paywall, but their ongoing coverage is a good reminder of why local newsrooms need support β€” and what we lose when those outlets are hollowed out.

This is a jarring story about Tegna owned WUSA-TV pulling a story AFTER IT AIRED. The excuse is that the story needed a comment from the local gas company BUT that seems a bit fishy especially because 1) the local gas co isn't mentioned 2) the general industry complaints are included. HMMMM

Here is a gift article from The NY Times that also describes the disinformation-fueled measles epidemic in Samoa which killed over 80 people, most of them small children, and RFK Jr’s considerable role in fomenting it:

How β€˜urgent’ texts pushed these donors to give thousands of times to political candidates Donors responding to a slew of political text messages from both Republicans and Democrats have given tens of thousands of dollars in small donations. Some without realizing how they were adding up.

While looking through campaign finance data, I noticed a strange pattern. Many people were donating small amounts, $1 or $5, to the same candidates and groups over and over again, dozens of times, every day. Why? Here's the story. www.latimes.com/politics/sto...
