Yep, I like this story so I might try another magazine. It's long though, so I have to find one that takes longer stories, LOL

Got a pass today on a litmag submission. I was surprisingly OK with it. I kinda expected a pass from a prestigious magazine, but I was still kinda "eh, you win some, you lose some."

Watching you all be fooled by corporate America into letting people starve to death is... something. The worst thing is when Christians do it. Because they should know better if they have, indeed, read the bible.

Donate to your local food shelters. Now, more than ever.

Because YOU have to work? Cool, cool. You're one executive's decision away from losing your job. In the three months it takes you to fight them for unemployment benefits, what are you eating? In the following three years it takes you to get a job, what are you eating?

03.11.2025 17:29 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

And if their children live--that's a big if--they then get to be traumatized from watching their parent(s) starve, or turn to crime to get a fucking can of spaghetti-o's. Like, I don't get this mindset. How can you condemn someone to that?

03.11.2025 17:29 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I don't understand the people who are like "work if you want to eat" when A) most of these people ARE working, and B) why would you consider "death" a reasonable punishment to not working? Because that's what you're saying. "If you don't work, you can't eat and you'll die."

I work at a location where I can see a food truck distribution every Monday. The lot is usually about half full. Today, it was all the way full and they were turning people away because there was no food left.

Every time we do DST, everyone posts reminders about how it's bad for our health and we should end it, because of extensive studies that prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that it's bad for our health. Why do we still do this? Do we just LIKE suffering?

03.11.2025 01:55 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 6    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

We really need to develop laws pertaining to private ownership of these fossils. If they're allowed to be privately owned, paleontologists still need access to them to study them. If we can't outlaw their ownership, there needs to be a middle ground. 6/6

03.11.2025 00:00 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

These are the questions we should have been asking even before we knew for sure they were two different species. I really hope everyone learns from this and is able to apply this knowledge going forward. Oh. And. 5/

03.11.2025 00:00 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

How cool is it that two similar predators existed at the same time and preyed on the same animals? Why did evolution do that? What can we learn from that? What was different between T-rex and Nanotyrannus that allowed them to live together? 4/

03.11.2025 00:00 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 3    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

And discoveries in the past two decades have especially shown that our understanding of biodiversity NOW might not entirely apply to biodiversity THEN. That should be EXCITING! We should have extensive debates until we know for sure. We shouldn't personally attack those who have opinions. 3/

Neither can people who have degrees. To us, it doesn't make sense if multiple niche predators existed in the same ecosystem, but that's after millions of years of trial and error. That's what we see now. We're still learning about how things were in the Mesozoic. 2/

03.11.2025 00:00 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 3    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

There's so much about paleontology that makes me excited, but so much that makes my heart hurt. Why were real paleontologists attacking someone who had valid theories about nanotyrannus--who then turned out to be right? Just like amateur paleontologists can't make decisions on vibes... 1/

03.11.2025 00:00 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 4    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I still think pachycephalosaurus, stygimoloch, and dracorex are separate species, but no one will know for sure until we have fossils to study. And there very well could be some in collections that are not accessible to anyone.

Private ownership of fossils should be a crime. 2/2

01.11.2025 03:40 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

The reason "experts" suggested that nanotyrannus was a juvenile T-Rex was because they had nothing to study. The fossil that revealed the truth was in a private collection for years.

In order to Do Science, paleontologists need evidence. They can't just arbitrarily decide things on vibes.

Last day in the Water Department! Moving on to the city's IT department and I'm a little sad, but also relieved.

This is what I've wanted to do with my life since I learned "computers" was something you could do for a job.

treating both sides as equally valid has done measurable harm *to* both sides. If someone believes something actually truly harmful and they get nyt reporters interviewing them in diners instead of saying "bruh, you know long-form birth certificates is a bullshit thing to be shook about" it ends bad

...are lying to get more money. Or they're just too stupid to realize generative AI isn't actually artificial intelligence, while the theory of a general AI ***is.***

Stating that generative AI could become general AI is like saying one day you'll be able to open Excel to play Elden Ring. 2/2

Something I think I need to post every day at this point...

Generative AI CANNOT become GENERAL AI. They are not designed the same way. Not only that, but a real general AI can't work at all with our current power infrastructure.

The companies who are trying to sell this as a thing... 1/2

Saaaame! I even wrote the CDC with my experience because I really think it needs to be available to more people!

They wouldn't even let me pay for it here in Michigan! Eventually I found a kind soul at the Department of Health who pulled some strings. I really, REALLY didn't want it again. I mean there's still a chance! but it's a lot less now.

That sucks. ._. I'm a baby, so I whined CONSTANTLY, haha. Went to work for a couple days, then my boss told me to go home. I was grateful.

I really wish they'd approve the vaccine for younger people.

Did they say it's a kind of pain they've never had before? That's the only way I can describe it. I was only 41. :(

30.10.2025 00:47 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 3    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I had it three times. Infection took hold after I had surgery because I had a weaker immune system. I finally got rid of it. Three months later, it came back. Then again six months later. I STILL had to fight for the vaccine. Since I got it, no more shingles. It was SO. PAINFUL.

I always hate when I do it because of who it came from, but I do it, too. XD
