Thanks for this. I wondered what Canada's number was. Rubio's perception seemed off when I had first heard it. The US administration cannot admit that those cuts cost lives, for a number of reasons. But I often think it is partially the ego.

In a way they do care and have for a long time. Just not in a good way. An under educated public is easier to manipulate. If you make the drop over generations it has more long term impact, and they have.

Back when I worked in radio we had a news team and meteorologist and a sports person. Mid sided Midwestern market.

You mean like when one company could own an AM an FM in one market. With restrictions on broadcast TV and newspaper. Would need to be modified for streaming/internet. Would love to see more emphasis on local and regional news as well.

I get some great science here but you are the main person in my feed with outdoor content. It takes more effort to build a group here, similar to original Twitter. Bluesky still feels less toxic than other places currently

There was a place like that where I grew up too. It was where I hung out before high school, knew all the staff and the regulars and they knew me. It was safe and filled with stories. Eventually it was torn down for an office building.

Building the relationship and recognition I feel is important. I walk into the local coffee shop for the same reason.
