It is absolutely possible for people to become more media literate. It's not even that hard.

But people fundamentally don't want to, because it's seen as "cringe". It's not seen as "productive". And the spaces that once rewarded this kind of proactive thinking don't really exist anymore.

Something I will say about the whole "people are more illiterate" now issue is that I think the devaluing and erasure of media analysis and critique as an art form is part of the problem.

Yeah, some people can't read but even more people just don't think *thinking* about what they read matters.
