I’m not particularly wise, and I’ve mostly given completely up on needing to micro-post my way through every political moment or issue, because we’re all just scrabbling along however we can in these trenches. But idk…this was just so stupid.

I hate free soloing conceptually anyway, and I wouldn’t usually even engage with it. But Alex Hanold went home to his kids today after taking risks for purely personal reasons. Other people who only took the risk of bearing witness to fascism, or legally seeking asylum, didn’t go home to their kids.

For no other reason than I used to climb and I live in America, I can’t help but see utter emptiness in Alex Hanold’s building solo today. To risk one’s life for the a boatload of Netflix money when people in Minnesota are risking their lives to protect and bear witness for their neighbors - why?

Just remembered that end of junior year of HS I wasn’t sure if I was gonna go back or do early college & I walked into the office wearing a brewery shirt (it’s a brewery town) and the lady yelled at me and I walked out and just never set foot on campus again 😂

This is the sort of thing that makes me want to walk into the woods and never come back. I feel completely bananas. I’ve been quite dedicated and doing really diligent work there, and it was just…thrown back in my face with a dress code like I was a truant high school kid.

My supervisor didn’t disagree with my points, but it’s just absolutely bizarre to me that it’s worth it to the organization to undo all of the work I’ve done to settle in there and turn it into an organizational home with one halfhearted policy that’s so much worse for anyone who can’t wear a skirt.

I spent years working to decide what was professionally appropriate to wear in the office when I transitioned out of women’s clothes. My work is excellent, and I was going into the office even more than required. A blanket policy is apparently more important than not alienating a dedicated worker.

I was told today that due to company policy I can’t wear my (knee length, dark neutral) shorts to work even when it is over 100 degrees outside and the office AC isn’t compensating. I don’t have an outward facing job & I always pair them with a professional shirt. Nobody but our workers in office.

I also think about this wrt little kids who grow up now with a lot of their interactions being filmed. The phone is like another presence in the room. We didn’t have that.

I struggle with zoom meetings, and I could absolutely NEVER film myself crying, because to my brain, the camera is (or at least represents) another viewer. I’m curious if there’s a generation for which this isn’t true, or cameras on them don’t add a layer of feeling perceived???

IG served me a reel the other day that someone made while crying in a public space, the caption was like “watch my mask come on when I realize someone is perceiving me.” And like…the conceit of this assumes that the creator doesn’t view *recording themselves* (for a post!) as “being perceived”

I’m convinced this is rage bait. My cousin made this for me once and it takes everything good about the banana-eating experience and flattens it completely in search of a dairy heaven to which it can never ascend. I had to drink a seltzer just to remove the sensation that I’d tasted rotting fruit.
