Another StoryGraph fan checking in! I switched over from Goodreads and I actually use StoryGraph way more often.

Taking a break from the heavy stuff and diving into something a little more seasonally appropriate! Got me feeling #witchy already ☺️🧹

Ooooh love to see Slewfoot on here! I absolutely loved that, read it earlier this year. Definitely an underrated book!

I couldn't hardly put this book down, so I finished it up this afternoon.

5/5⭐.

Everyone should read this book at least once. Especially in today's often empty/fake-feeling world. We're all looking for our why. This has given me so much to think about.

What Moves the Dead is delightful - I read it just last month! Hope you enjoy as much as I did 😊

I just had to dig to remember the name, but T.A. Barron's Merlin series! Specifically, The Great Tree of Avalon. I was obsessed for a hot minute.

More remembered since I still have them is Jane Linskold's Firekeeper series. Only I just learned she's still writing them!! More for the TBR list.

Oh I just picked this book up the other day, I'm going to have to move it up on my TBR list thanks to this!

Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor E. Frankl

Next up on my reading list is Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl.

I know this will be a hard read but the question of purpose and meaning is one that has been weighing heavily on me in recent years. I hope to find guidance here.

Wrapped this read up today. I find it difficult to rate a work like this on the same system as novels, but at an overgeneralization, I'd give this a 3.5/5⭐. I felt like I got what I came for and it was absolutely a worthwhile read.

I wish I felt as hopeful about the future as Kropotkin did.

I'm curious what your take on Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell was? It's one of my all-time favorite books so I'm so interested in other perspectives!

I'm planning to celebrate spooky season by checking out some horror classics. These are on my list for the month:
The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson
Fledgling by Octavia E. Butler
Beloved by Toni Morrison

September reading wrap-up! Not my best month, not my worst. Certainly an eclectic list.

Katabasis was easily my favorite read of the month. Looking forward to an October full of new pages!

Thanks for sharing! This looks really interesting and I'm adding it to my TBR pile. I try to alternate in books about writing so this is perfect.

Daily headaches are keeping me from writing as much, so here's something completely different. This beautiful orb weaver #spider took up residence on my deck this morning. I'm very honored to have her.

Love this! How about Slewfoot: A Tale of Bewitchery by Brom, We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson, or Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman?

As a fellow writer and chronic migraine sufferer... Yes to all of this. It sucks so bad when the thing you want to do most (write) is something that hurts and is much more difficult with a migraine.

Hang in there. Be kind to yourself.

I adore Susanna Clarke's writing. It's incredible too how different Piranesi is from Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell. Both are amazing, but so so different

Recently I've read The Once and Future King by T. H. White, The Shadow of the Gods by John Gwynne, Here be Dragons by Sharon Kay Penman, and Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman.

The best are Shadow of the Gods and Between Two Fires, but I liked them all. I have more recs too if you ever need

Historical Fantasy first and foremost, then any only Fantasy, then Weird Lit, then any old Sci Fi, then any old Historical Fiction, I could go on and on.

I'm reading The Conquest of Bread by Peter Kropotkin! He's one of the great Anarchist/Communist philosophers of the 19th century. The ideology is fascinating, as well as saddening, given how many of the same problems we're still dealing with almost 200 years later.
