i didn’t know her name is Consuela until one random day in high school when she decided to tell me that. she only goes by Connie. and it’s just… sad to me. i feel like growing up i missed out on a lot because i couldn’t communicate with older relatives that only spoke spanish.

for context my grandmother is a Mexican woman with brown skin and spanish as her first language but she refuses to acknowledge or ever talk about it. she married a white man and chose not to teach her son (my dad) spanish because "this is america we speak english."

I think romance writers and horror writers should form an alliance by virtue of those being the two genres people feel really comfortable dunking on based on nothing but faulty preconceived notions.
