21.01.2025 00:21 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Any money donated to the church via the link below will go towards renovating the north aisle, and turning it into a comfortable community space. As this is a community focussed project, any extra will be redirected to our hardship fund, and given to people in need.
givealittle.co/c/stnicholas...
Redoing the North Aisle isn't a big job. It'll cost around Β£1000 to turn it into a comfortable community space with chairs people actually want to sit on, a nice book case, a table that isn't an old desk - but that's just not in our budget for this year. So we're doing a little fundraiser...
20.01.2025 09:20 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The north aisle of St Nicholas church, with plastic chairs strewn everywhere, a large desk used as a table, piles of books, and a large cross
The western part of the north aisle of St nicks showing a toilet door, a cupboard topped by piles of books, a noticeboard, and a mini fridge
The eastern part of the north aisle of St nicks showing a cluttered windowsill, a countertop with sinks and a kettle, and colouring in stuck to the wooden backsplash
The north aisle again showing the table, and a pew at the back, covered in clutter.
Many of you who've visited will have noticed that though our north aisle is the community gathering space, with the kitchen, toilet, and library, it's a bit grotty.
We're hoping to do a small refresh of the space, making it somewhere more comfortable that people want to be. But we need your help...
Bishop Christopher (former Assistant Bishop of Leicester) will preside at the service, and instead of a sermon Rev Rob will give a series of short reflections throughout, explaining what is happening, and why.
This is a great way to engage more deeply with what is happening when you come to church.

We know many of our community come from different traditions and experiences, as well as being new to faith, so on Sunday the 19th and 26th of January our weekly 18:30 Eucharist will be a 'Teaching Eucharist'.
What is a Teaching Eucharist?
It's explained in the next post!
I loved reading this piece. How fabulous that Dr Alex Bond @thelabandfield.bsky.social is an Ornithologist-in-residence at St Nicholas Church in Leicester! Some bird joy and vital talks on how plastic is ruining the environment (and killing precious more-than-human species.)

Did you know that we are possibly the only church in the UK to have an Ornithologist in Residence?

03.01.2025 10:43 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0ALL ARE WELCOME AT ST NICHOLAS, LEICESTER'S OLDEST CHURCH. PEOPLE HAVE BEEN WORSHIPPING GOD IN THIS BUILDING SINCE THE 800'S, AND WE CONTINUE TO OFFER A GENTLE AND WELCOMING SPACE WHERE PEOPLE CAN FIND GOD AND THEMSELVES THROUGH PRAYER AND REFLECTION. WE ARE A MEMBER OF THE INCLUSIVE CHURCH NETWORK, AND HAVE BEEN WELCOMING AND AFFIRMING LGBT+ PEOPLE FOR WELL OVER 50 YEARS. SITED IN THE CENTRE OF THE MULTICULTURAL CITY OF LEICESTER WE ARE ALSO PROUD TO BE PART OF THE DIOCESAN INTERCULTURAL WORSHIPPING COMMUNITIES PROJECT. HERE WE WORK TOGETHER AND LEARN FROM EACH OTHER, SO THAT AS A COMMUNITY WE MAY BETTER REFLECT AND CELEBRATE THE WONDROUS DIVERSITY OF GOD'S CREATION. COME AND BE WHO GOD CREATED YOU TO BE, WITHOUT FEAR OF JUDGEMENT OR EXCLUSION.
We know that the start of a journey of faith is a precious and fragile thing, and we want you to know that you're welcome among us, exactly as you are. At this church, and in these classes, there is no need to minimise or hide any part of who God created you to be.
