WELCOMΕ ΤΟ COMMUNION A QUEER CHRISTIAN ZINE Whether you're Christian or not, LGBTQIA+ or not, an expert in queer theology, or completely new to the idea of affirming Christianity, we hope you'll find something to interest you in this issue. We have pieces on ministering in London during the AIDS crisis, advice for Queer Christian stu-dents, academic research on transgender people in medieval hagiography, a feature on bums in Christian art, and so much more. There's even a cryptic crossword! This zine has been created as part of Nicholas Church in the mission of St Leicester. At 1100+ years old St Nicholas is one of the ten oldest churches in the UK it's also an LGBTQIA+ inclusive church, and has been for well over half a century. We believe that queer people have a place in the Christian church, that queerness itself is a gift from God to be celebrated, and that there is no conflict between being LGBTQIA+ and the Christian faith. We are informally known as an "LGBT sanctuary church", where LGBTQIA+ Christians can come and be exactly who God made them to be, without fear of bigotry or exclusion. For many years we have had a presence at Leicester Pride, offering pastoral support and an affirming and celebratory presence for those who need it. This is often a surprise for people who have never encountered LGBT+ inclusive Christianity before, and this zine is an attempt to offer people the opportunity to explore a multitude of different experiences, ideas, and perspectives from across the broad spectrum of inclusive Christian LGBT+ theology and belief. You may be reading this zine somewhere far from Leicester, and that's because it has been created with an ethos of grassroots community organising, meaning that not only is it completely free to you, it's also free for anyone to print and distribute. What is 'Communion: A Queer Christian Zine'? 'Communion' is a 'Zine' or magazine affirming LGBT+ Christianity in all it's weird and wonderful holiness. It has been created as part of the mission of St Nicholas Church in Leicester. The intention for the zine is for it, like Communion itself, to be shared and offered to all who wish to take it -especially those with whom Christ would have been condemned for feeding, for those are the most worthy of all. With that in mind it has been created with an ethos of grassroots community organising and radical sharing, meaning that not only is it completely free to the person reading it, it's also free for anyone to print and distribute. More specific information about this, and the files you need to enable that sharing, can be found lower down this page.

Why does this zine exist? St Nicholas Church has been welcoming and affirming LGBT+ people since the 1960's, and has long been known as an 'LGBT+ Sanctuary Church', offering a spiritual home and pastoral support to those who needed it. Because of this we have, for many years, had a presence at Leicester Pride, offering pastoral support and an affirming and celebratory presence for those who need it. This is often a surprise for people who have never encountered LGBT+ inclusive Christianity before, and Pride isn't really the place for those deep conversations they want to have (especially when we're given a stall near the loud main stage), so this zine was originally conceived as an attempt to remedy that by offering people an opportunity to explore a multitude of different experiences, ideas, and perspectives from across the broad spectrum of LGBT+ inclusive Christian theology and belief.

"Communion" is designed to cover a range of inclusive Christian thought and serve a wide audience, with articles ranging from the deeply academic to the very silly, and there's even a crossword!

As part of the ethos of radical sharing all of the contributors have offered their work for free.

To coincide with Leicester Pride this year we're debuting a new project: 'Communion: A Queer Christian Zine', created with an ethos of grassroots organising and radical sharing, with the finished product being freely available for anyone to print and distribute among their own communities.

Get in touch if you or your church wants to march alongside us- over the last few years the inclusive Christian presence has grown and grown and last year we had six different denominations represented!

🧁🪧 On Friday the 29th of August we're being hosted by our friends at Christ The King Beaumont Leys to use their big hall for our final Pride prep.

We'll be decorating cupcakes, preparing access packs to give out, making placards, etc.

Drop by any time between midday and 6pm. Food will be provided.

🖍️🖌️ On Saturday the 16th of August we have our Pride Craft & Chat. This is a relaxed community event where we'll make things to give out at Pride (including lots of badges) while chatting about inclusive theology.
