Another is that we need progressive change in office, to protect the most disadvantaged people in our state, so they can fully participate in civic life, and improve their own lives.

As progressives, we can take two things from this. For one, we can have hope that, even if the government doesn’t fund these programs, communities, nonprofits, and progressive organizations, can rise up to meet the challenge.

Feed My People Commits to Continued Hunger Relief in Rusk and Taylor Counties Amid Pantry Closures FMP says it serves 14 counties, including Rusk and Taylor.

Feed My People is the only food Bank in West Central Wisconsin, dedicated to serving 14 counties. As food pantries close in WI, partly due to federal and state budget bills, it is taking responsibility for The Emergency Food Assistance Program in several counties.

Late last week, Susan Crawford was sworn in as the latest member of Wisconsin's Supreme Court. Although Elon Musk gave millions to her opponent, she won by 10 points. It shows that Wisconsinites want real change, and that we, not the rich and powerful, have the final voice in our state.

Why are Black women more likely to be murdered? Wisconsin bill would create task force. State Rep. Sheila Stubbs announced she's reintroducing a bill to create a Missing and Murdered African American Women and Girls Task Force within Wisconsin's Department of Justice.

This is particularly important in our state. Although black women are likely than white women to be murdered or abducted in all states, WI has an especially great disparity- African American women and girls face a risk 20 times greater than their white counterparts.

Shelia Stubbs, who represents Assembly District 78, has introduced a bill that could help marginalized people through our state. It would create a task force to investigate missing and murdered black women in Wisconsin, examine the reasons for the violence, and make recommendations to prevent it.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the suspect is "white, in his late 40s to early 50s, about 6 feet tall, weighing 200 pounds, with shoulder length blond hair. Police ask anyone with information to call officer Bryce Ripp at 608-266-8797 or email him at bryce.ripp1@wisconsin.gov."

Prado represents Wisconsin's 9th Assembly District in Milwaukee County, which has a diverse population, and has elected only Democrats since its creation in 1973. Officials are still trying to determine if Prado's house was deliberately targeted.

Disturbing news- on late Monday night, Priscilla Prado, Wisconsin Assembly representative, described a man attempting to get inside her house. This is about a month after Minnesota state representative Melissa Hortman was shot and killed, and state senator John Hoffman and his wife were wounded.

As progressives, we believe in giving more to both public infrastructure and the arts, giving people the opportunity to live *and* do the things that make them feel alive.

However, funding for the arts is always precarious, and there are other entities, like hospitals, and public school systems, in need of more public funding. Sadly, a lot of groups that need and deserve more support are, because of conservative control of the budget, ending up a bit like this:

Recently, our state has made initiatives to support film across the state, including tax incentives for TV and movie productions that choose to film here. Our state, full of natural scenery and hidden talent, could be a great new source of future movies!

Is the climate change contribution to natural disasters something you knew about? What do you think should be done to fix it?

When this happens, everybody suffers, especially those in marginalized communities, or those with low incomes. This is why Wisconsin Progress strives to support candidates who will protect our environment- because, in the end, it's what's needed to protect all of us.

Of course, we're not saying climate change caused the storms today. We're not scientists, after all. But science does state that climate change has, and will continue, increase the rate and frequency of natural disasters due to increased heat and evaporation.

Though Wisconsinites can tough out cold, rain, and hail, there's a bigger issue here that we feel isn't discussed enough. The fact is, it's been a crazy summer across the country in terms of natural disasters, and this is partly due to human-fueled climate change.
