Bidenβs Push to Cancel Student Debt Surpasses 5 Million Borrowers
With Mondayβs authorization and 27 previous ones, the Biden administration has forgiven over $180 billion in student loans, even as its larger policy vision never took root.
The U.S. Education Department announced on Monday that it had canceled student loans for more than 150,000 borrowers, bringing the tally of Americans whose loans were forgiven under President Biden to over five million.

Pitfalls to avoid when interpreting research studies on higher ed (opinion)
The quality of much of the research on higher education is questionable, argue David H. Feldman and Douglas A. Webber, who recommend some questions you should ask when interpreting the results.
Nor should one trust "studies" that push strong policy positions based on simple correlations rife with selection problems.
This is a big issue for reporters who often have no training in the use and misuse of data. Doug Webber & I had our say on that one.
