Great review. I find the best part of LHY is the timing and casualty scoring mechanism. The fire system is a bit too fiddly for me. I also left ASL behind in favour of an innovative small unit tactics system: Conflict of Heroes. I recommend it, especially 3rd ed. and the solo expansion

My copy of Red Strike (Vuca Simulations) arrived today. I got dinged for $60 "HST and import fees" by Canada Customs. That makes it over $100 just for shipping.

My "collection" is under 50 games, and my wife thinks it's excessive.

I've gotta reno the basement into a game space. Can't leave stuff set up with my current environment, aka the dining room table.

I think games could work as investments to a degree, but few games increase in value, and managing your collection becomes your job. I'm never going to buy a game and leave it in shrink, or unpunched.

Best there ever was... Dark Tower, Enchanted Wood, Griffin Mountain! And many more.

I learned early on as a GM to let players do the heavy lifting. I don't think I've tried to run a plot or tell a story since 1990.

2023 was a memorable year for gaming for me. I played more games than since my university days, a lot of years ago. Of note were Arracourt (BCS), Into the Woods (GBACW), John Company 2nd Edition, Undaunted Stalingrad, A Glorious Chance, Onus Traianus, Root, and Paths of Glory. Next year will be epic

I was talking about Night Witches with my partner, and her great aunt flew for the Soviet Union in WW2, though not bombers. She flew medical evacuations and was a field nurse, and was wounded 4 times in the line of duty. Looking forward to Night Witches!
