Iโm raising rent relief funds for Minneapolis immigrant families affected by ICE.
Donations are down, but ICE is very much still here and thereโs still so much need. Can you help?

Photo depicting a Black woman doubled, sitting back to back, one wearing a black sheet and one wearing white. Their faces are painted blue and white with black decoration. The wall behind them is deep blue, and a bunch of bananas hang from the ceiling.
Photo depicting a Black woman doubled, with blue painted skin and white head wraps, peeking out from either side of tall red curtains decorated with cut-out eyes. The room behind them is bright yellow, with a blue chair. Several other blue hands are seen holding the curtain back, suggesting some unseen figures.
Photo depicting a Black woman wearing a long blue dress and black head wrap, with skin painted white with black decoration. She stands in a corner on a patch of white in a room otherwise painted all red, filled with white jugs lining the floor. A blue chair holds a small white figurative sculpture, and a blue ladder against one wall has white hands pulling it up at the top. A framed image of an eye hangs on the other wall.
Photo depicting a Black woman with painted white skin, wearing a blue dress and red head wrap, sitting cross-legged within a sandy expanse, on a long black and white vertical striped carpet. A large red textile billows out behind her, resembling wings. A large moon hangs in the smoggy sky.
Works by Ethiopian artist Aida Muluneh, 2010s-20s, whose saturated self-portraits "express what it is to be an African woman, to encapsulate gender and identity, and to situate it within the colonial experience."

Your Crafting is NOT resistance
I enjoyed this video: โYour Crafting is not Resistanceโ, & the follow-up.
Knitting a pattern thatโs a symbol against the far-right is great as a coping device and for feel connection. However these should supplement and aid in confronting power in other ways, too.

Not sure which stat blows me away more. That Donald Trump's name shows up more times in the Epstein Files (38K) than Harry Potter's does in the Harry Potter books (~19K) or that Joe Rogan has had more guests that were named in the Epstein Files (10+) than he's had Black women guests (~5).

Thereโs a type of mood I can get in where Iโm antsy, frustrated, and just want to start ruthlessly donating/disposing of clutter and stuff from my house thatโs not needed. Craving a blank-er slate.
I have that now, but not clear what to dispose of. Think the items are just surface-level coping

Exclusive | Inside the Tech CEO Campaign to Stop Trump From Sending Troops to San Francisco
Sam Altman, Jensen Huang and Marc Benioff helped Mayor Daniel Lurie to persuade the president not to deploy the National Guard.
Tech CEOs stopped Trump from sending troops to San Francisco which would have been disastrous for their immigrant worker base given the troops come along with massive indiscriminate ICE raids.

Solution for me: do a line of soumak using half the normal weft (ie half of the weft in the finer areas) to mark the transition between areas of higher and lower epi.
Good to use the colour that matches the chunky area, so raised sections match.
Better to do soumak back-to-front; blends in more

Oh yeah my selvedges were all over the place here ๐
, but the issue I was talking about is the black warp showing where I swap from the stripes white and yellow at ~10epi and the yellow where itโs at ~5epi. I couldnโt figure out how to address it other than beating down a lot!

An in-progress tapestry weaving that has weft made of predominantly white yarn, with a small section of yellow and black warp showing. The white yarn is used in different ways to creat distinct textures in the surface- areas where the weft is doubled and spans warp threads two-at-a-time, soumak using doubled weft, and regular soumak.
I started a (very disposable) #tapestry sample to try out combining different setts; ie #weaving w/ 2x the number of weft threads while grouping duos of warp threads in places.
A challenge I encountered was getting the thicker weft to cover gaps from the previous pick done at a finer sett. ๐คฆโโ๏ธ

AI-generated PRs can suck to review when maintaining an open source project, but itโs even more frustrating when people make AI-driven code review bots and then point them at large public repos ๐ก
At least spam PRs only annoy maintainers, spam reviewers annoy _everyone_

This one, kind of went some unexpected directions but I rather like him. I only have two more toucans and I'm tempted to just tackle and get them done.

A 50 by 100 cm tapestry laid out on a wood table. The weaving is weft faced and made of fine sheepโs wool. It depicts many very colorful fantastical creatures on a navy blue background. The creatures are very geometric and have elements drawing on real species, such as spiders, monkeys, birds, and humans. Many have multiple heads and carry other smaller creatures. Colors include orange, pink, fuchsia, turquoise, yellow, grey, and tan. There is a yellow, teal, and turquoise zigzag border.
A 20 by 40 cm tapestry laid out on a wood table. The weaving is a warp faced double-weave and made of fine sheepโs wool. It is still on a basic back strap loom set up and about 20 cm of its length is still unwoven. It depicts many bright pink fantastical geometric creatures on a navy blue background. The creatures are mostly winged and resemble bats and birds. Because it is a double weave, if you turn it over the colors are reversed, there are navy blue creatures on a pink background.
The tag from the first tapestry which reads โArte Indigenaโ and โASURโ in large print with โMade in Boliviaโ in small print below.

there's an interesting detail in this, which is that *technically* he did not have his visa cancelled for his speech, they used his speech as a pretext to single him out for search and concoct allegations that he'd lied about illegal drug use, and that became the pretext for the deportation.

Knitted panel showing a black and white, pixelated, head and shoulders portrait of a white man looking straight at the viewer. He is resting his chin on one hand and is wearing a checked shirt.
Above and below the portrait are bands of colourful motifs. Narrow blue stripes with yellow gliders on either side of red stripes with white pulsars.
Obviously I have to go back to my Game of Life Fair Isle project for today's #mathartmarch prompt "game". Here's my knitted portrait of its originator, John Conway, with heraldic bands of pulsars and gliders in traditional Fair Isle colours.

Sam Dienst Weaves the Everyday Into Rich Tapestries
Dienst wrests playfulness and movement from the warp and weft of weaving.
The word โtapestryโ conjures Medieval constructions in dark, simple palettes, conveying religious rites and hunting motifs โ but modern practitioners likeย Sam Dienstย have demonstrated that the form is due for a (second) Renaissance.
