Started the day with giving a seminar on the topic of Script & Digital Poetry — and discussing all things aesthetics, materiality, kinetic and static script as well as motifs of digital/analog memory writing processes in poetry film — a pleasure!

Thank you to Dr. Esther Kilchmann for inviting me!

Amanda Shanor, a UPenn professor and leading scholar on academic freedom, offered this apt quote in the NYTimes yesterday:

The history of creating lists of Jewish people for the government is one of the most frightening in world history. And the idea that this is being done in the interest of the Jewish community is particularly frightening.

Do you think colleges making lists of Jews on a campus, at DJT's request, is a scary idea?

Please sign this petition, organized by Jewish profs at Penn, standing against Penn handing over lists of Jewish faculty or students!

When one's research interests find a home in a handbook one cannot help but shamelessly plug and provide some links!

I’m also very happy to have contributed one chapter on "Cultural Memory Studies" – with a focus on transcultural poetry – and another on "Audiovisual Poetry", the latter which I had the pleasure to co-write with @antjeschmidt.bsky.social – joining the many other insightful pieces in the Handbook!

Question to fellow international researchers in these times of deadlines and applications:

how do you navigate being between/in several academic (cultural/linguistic) spheres? Especially when it comes to applying for positions/fellowships/research stays? Any advice, thoughts, similar questions?

Visited Bucerius Law School on Wednesday to see Eva Illouz and Natan Sznaider in a thought-provoking and very direct conversation on October 7th, its aftermath, (lack of) compassion, antisemitism, and the discourse on Israel and Palestine in the humanities since the 1960s.
