Fwiw… tailscale free tier is quite generous. 3 user limit, 100 devices. I do pay for my business’s connection, but for my home lab the free tier has been great. Plus, I hear you can self host cloud part too, with Headscale.

The boundary is pretty unclear now. Through my dictation system I can get very granular without having to worry too much about syntax, etc. “At line x, add a function that has y parameters, checks this value, and calls foo if true.” But most of the time I just give high level requirements.

Is “AI” good or bad? A complicated question, but for brevity, my answer is that it is unambiguously bad.
Are there applications were it can be useful, today or in the future? Unfortunately, in many domains I care about, the answer is yes.

built a universal Linux dictation app for barking orders into a browser window's text field, writing code, Slack messages, and running terminal commands. i used Whisper, Vicinae (Raycast clone), and llamacpp for transcription cleanup and post-processing. I haven't typed on a keyboard in a long time.

i am sorry to say that now i that i understand how they actually work, i am all the more interested in developing and using transformer models. i no longer agree with the idea that no "understanding" occurs -- embeddings really do encode *concepts and meanings*, not just words.
