Just thinking... the increase of SSB at Studland corresponds to the start time of the Dorset Heath project of connecting Remstone heath, Studland through to Winfrith and Tadnoll. We are often told that being 'more connected' helps butterfly population populations - is thus an example?

the key climate offender is humans burning oil, gas and coal and releasing ancient Carbon into the atmosphere. Cattle on pasture replace the 30 million buffalo which sadly were wiped out in pre-industial times - no increase in extra Carbon released. Extensive cattle farming makes rewilding possible

Great photos! How long did you spend in Tout Quarry and how many Lulworth Skippers and Silver-studded Blues did you see? We can use this information for our Portland butterfly survey. Thanks

You're right. Here in the UK we have dominated the Landscape totally for at least 300 years. This century the rewilding movement is allowing nature to start to take back control - however the first step to your ideal is grazing with herbivores as landscape managers.

@dorsetandbeyond.bsky.social Hi Richard I have enjoyed your photos and comments about the Dorset Frome here and the other place. Could you come and give our Wildlife group in Poundbury a talk next year? A series of your fabulous photos and comments would be brilliant. estherandsteve@btinternet.com

You will need to graze rewilded grassland with .... cattle! We need cattle, sheep and ponies for conservational grazing.
