Could be that the Compiler is looking for a way to get out of the vault he's in, if he is indeed trapped in there. Could also be info gathering for the Pfhor or something like that.

Idk but I think the idea is really cool if the UESC aren't as present as it seems.

Marathon Story Theory:
What if the compiler thats stuck in the vault on the Marathon is the one controlling the UESC drones?

The DE art shows the enviro that the Complier is held and it looks like a bunch of drone heads. Plus the drones float similarly to how the Compiler does.

It would if the game had it built from the get go. Marathon has a few quests(contracts) that ask you specifically to kill other runners which is why that could be an issue. Idk if AR has a quest like that or not but aggro based could get funky after you have to kill like 5 players for a quest
