Exploring the British countryside one day at a time β°οΈ Typically found either stone bothering, nerding out on something historical, or sleeping out under the stars π

Easily the most unique live music experience I've ever had. At moments I felt like I'd been transported back to ancient times. @wardruna.music-social.com.ap.brid.gy you are incredible!

Day trippin' to Abergavenny, and a slow meander up Sugar Loaf today. Legs are beat, but the brain is feeling good!

Still not over my trip to York Minster recently π More stained glass than you can shake a stick at, and history deeper than the average person to ever fully uncover!

I feel like I might have reached peak house of worship yesterday. Will anything ever come close to York Minster?!

A few from yesterday's stomp around Compton Dando. After a week of being couped up indoors, some fresh air was much needed!

Stumbled across the Church of St Mary's in Compton Dando yesterday. Beautiful church with a Norman tomb, the remains of a sundial and steps made out of a headstone. Highly recommended a visit!

Tucked away behind Bath and mostly hidden beneath a blanket of grass, Charmy Down Airfield still has a few tell-tale signs of its history.

A revisit of one of my favourite local spots today, Stanton Drew. A tiny area so rich in history, can't recommend it enough!

Map of France with a legend saying count of male witches. The dots are all over the populated parts of France with a major cluster in western France (not Brittany, but east of there)
Map of France labeled count of female witches. There are far fewer dotted around the whole country in similar areas to the male witches. But note much more significant clusters in far southwest and in far north on the borders with Spain and Belgium
my latest attempt to map witches by gender in france 1790-1940 (this all based on evidence from newspapers and criminal justice)
(apologies if youβre consulting on a phone, the maps are scaled for a page) ποΈ #HexTag
A single Magpie is often seen as an omen of ill luck. However, in Shropshire, there are many rituals to counter this. One Victorian folk belief, states that when seeing a Magpie, one must spit on the ground and say
'Devil, Devil I defy thee-
Magpie, Magpie, I go by Thee'
To remove any bad luck.
Spent some time checking out the graves and memorial plaques on the floor of St Mary's Church, Thornbury today. Kinda fascinating the history of people from long ago, slowly being eroded away under our feet.

Once Venta Silurum, now Caerwent, this Roman town has some incredible ruins! Best of it all it's free to visit! Throughly recommend it to anyone looking for a free day out.

I stumbled across the story of the Mead Tea Gardens, a hidden gem in St. Catherineβs Valley near Bath. Opened in 1923 before closing in the 1980s. A fascinating piece of Bathβs history!
