It pains me to say this, but... well... Philadelphia right now is really a model for what the rest of the US should be in the weeks to come.

When people tell me that they are having nightmares about what's going on in this country, I try to reassure them by saying things like, "you were probably awake".

8/ Were marginalized community organizers consulted, invited, or even considered? No - a white person stepped to the front of the line and told all even them to wait in the back of the bus, and that is not okay. It is not how you build movements or community.

7/ There are Black, Brown, Indiginous, Muslim, queer, trans, and other marginalized folks who have been organizing for years and decades. They've been doing the work, and they are the people most affected by Trump's policies.

6/ "Working with the cops" doesn't keep a protest safe. Cops are mostly Trumpers. Cops let that truck nearly kill people at a protest on 35W in Minneapolis. Cops let the car through that killed Summer Taylor in Seattle.

5/ Someone inexperienced skipping over all the planning, resources, and considerations for a protest action is dangerous and naive.

4/ Even non-heirarchical groups have some plan for leadership at an action.

Who calls a retreat? Who keeps the crowd calm if something goes wrong? Who makes sure fascists don't take over the event, and how?

3/ Protests involve supplies like water, medical supplies, masks, ear plugs, marshal supplies, walkie talkies, and sound / amplification.

There are considerations about messaging, routes, exit plans, and dealing with threats.

2/ A large organized protest involves hundreds of hours of planning by experienced people. There are plans to make the action safe and successful.

There are resources like marshals, medics, legal observers, a tactical team, blocking vehicles, speakers, MCs, and security.

1/ There's a national protest called by people with no organizing experience. I hear things like "locally, the person who pulled the permit is a real person that wanted to help".

The protest may be fine. It may be a dangerous mess. Either way, here are some problems:

Fuck Target. They were never an ally, and they never should have been so central at Pride

4/ As soon as Target got the least push back, they bailed. And now, they are dropping all DEI. Go to Costco instead.

3/ Target continued to fund politicians who want to steal LGBTQ rights. This is not just gay marriage, but making queer sex illegal, taking away discrimination protections, and eliminating trans people's rights

2/ Target only started supporting equity and Pride because their far-right board of directors got busted being homophobic.

1/ We've been saying Target isn't really an ally for a long time. Slapping some rainbows on shit doesn't make up for funding anti-queer candidates left and right.

Increasingly, the ADL is not just being a shill for Israel's far-right, aparthied, genocidal government; but an apologist for far right politics internationally, and that will include actual fascism so long as the fascists send weapons to Israel to bomb Palestinians.

Bear in mind that the ADL says Musk doing a very clear nazi salute after years of posting white supremacist memes on Xitter is "not antisemetic".

But college kids saying Israel should stop bombing hospitals and schools is "antisemetic". In fact, they say Jews criticizing Israel are "antisemitic".

Yeah. A fucking nazi says nazi salutes are ironic! Well, I'll trust that! Because nazis are are always so honest about what nazis are up to!

5/ They are already actively trying to destroy millions or immigrant and queer lives. For no good reason, they took action that will kill many people with diabetes. Mass political violence and camps are only so many steps further.

It gets worse. Don't be complicit in this shit.

4/ Don't pretend that behind the scenes fascists coming out from under their rocks isn't dangerous. Don't pretend this isn't a credible threat to Black, Brown, Indiginous, queer, trans, Jewish, and Muslim folks; along with Musk's political adversaries.

3/ Hate the Democrats? Great. I do too. Wanna make some memes about Dems being fascists? Go for it. But don't equivocate the evils and failings of the Dems with full on fascism. That's normalizing mask-off fascism.

2/ Unchecked, this is a statement to fascists groups to organize openly. It will encourage political violence and fascist recruitment efforts. Along with the January 6th pardons, it's a step towards a new brownshirts.

1/ Playing down apartheid billionaire unelected overlord making an actual nazi salute at the inauguration is dangerous.

It was clearly not a joke, accident, or mistake. It was a rallying call to nazis, white supremacists, and other far right authoritarian.

Today crystalizes Biden's legacy. If a ceasefire could happen on the last day of the Biden administration, it could have happened well before. 100,000+ dead or missing. Every hospital destroyed. Not enough food or water. Daily war crimes. The genocide is on Biden.

Remember isn't just there to fight misinformation. It is there to prevent Facebook from being the tool to spread ethnic cleansing and other political violence
