There used to be constant, sometimes hysterical coverage when the populist right was in opposition. Now they're firmly in power media know it's not in their interest to report landings and government agencies, such as the Coast Guard, do not issue press releases and refuse to answer press enquiries.

In preparing my plenary on gender (as a huge umbrella term) and Giorgia Meloni('s government) for LavLang 31, I find myself overwhelmed by the amount of data, which is usually a good thing but it is also difficult to categorise and give it a meaning in terms of the wide scholarly work on far-right.

Nothing will convince me that automated processes and AI will mean more fairness/inclusivity in language. I am fixing a transcription I got off YouTube and all gendered elements referring to women are in their masculine forms, names too.

I was in an 🇮🇹 supermarket this morning, at some point an alarm went off and a recorded voice in English invited us to "immediately evacuate the building".I told my mum we had to leave, while everyone else continued shopping.I'm now debating whether speaking English is an advantage in some situations

Eliminating academic programs does not eliminate the need for the expertise those programs produce. Instead those same knowledges and skills will now be the responsibility of increasingly overburdened and underprepared instructors across the institution.

I am very proud of her and her work and I want to thank her for allowing me to explore a context I didn't know. We had long and interesting conversations on gender, and different/similar cultures/geographical areas. If you work on similar topics, keep in touch with her!

Last week, "my" PhD student Khaoula Belghit successfully passed her viva (with minor corrections), with a thesis titled: "Investigation of gender construction in Algerian EFL communicative classrooms: A historical decolonial feminist critical perspective".

Lovely day writing with some colleagues in the English countryside!
