visited the UK embassy in Italy just now to check for myself. Its basically as I remember, the general basic Gov.UK holding page, this is the email update I was talking about Tom, not specific to the Italian UK embassy per se. Info on phone time
Think its been Italian law since the 60s for females to retain their original surname as well as their married surname.
16.02.2026 19:57 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0this is a very real completely unnecessary impactful issue for alot of women. It should be receiving alot more media attention, tv news etc. Hoping you get your UK p/port sorted. It should be ok, I had to post copy of all 48 coloured pages of my Italian p/port to UK p/port when renewing last Nov.

Another example of the Italian Constitution saving the day. She may well have signed up as a full member otherwise. A strong constitution helps to stop or slow the slide to fascism, especially if it was written with that specific aim in mind.

16.02.2026 08:48 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 015 years ago today I arrived on Downing Street in a cage.
I've seen off Cameron, May, Johnson, Truss and Sunak and I'm still going strong.
Only two Prime Ministers have ever done longer stints here: William Pitt the Younger and Sir Robert Walpole.

never sent us anything, we've signed up for emailed info re post Brexit legislation but that's from the general UK govt website, nada from UK embassy. Think UK embassies are singularly hopeless everywhere, compared to other MS. Info/rules were awful for us non uk residents even before Brexit!

14.02.2026 18:19 โ ๐ 7 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 1Agreed! The British embassy in Rome has the email address of most UK citizens living here, the least they could have done would have been to drop us a note. Otherwise, what's the point of having an embassy. After all, this means that we citizens would be refused entry to our own country (!!).
14.02.2026 12:44 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0๐ฏAbsolutely!, no longer able to apply/get p/ports from UK embassies anywhere anymore, all online. Remember when we first came here, I contacted them to register we were here, and they said they don't take a register of uk citizens living in other countries. Always, quick 2 state what they WON'T do!

like many Scots Italians, very well aware, my nonno (grandfather) narrowly missed being on board.
If memory serves, the BBC doesn't suprisingly ๐ say, is that the UK Govt did not fly the red cross flag, so it appeared as a warship, NOT a ship full of civilians!

all non UK resident UK born citizens are also affected, known about this for about a year, reluctantly renewed UK p/port last November just for the privilege to enter the UK! too soon to know how online airline bookings will cope.
