Haphazard Hobbying

Wanted something a little longer form to collect my hobby output and maybe help inspire others to get creative.

So I'm going to have a go at blogging. Finding it a bit challenging to actually get going with it. It can be found at ... www.haphazardhobbying.co.uk

So the underground/cave/mines base board has been completed. Just need to work out the best way to do walls so they match the floor. Lots of fun had trying out coloured tile grout for the first time. Need to get some scatter built.

Also been working on some D&D terrain for the family. Finished 4 greenfield base boards and now working on some rocky mines/underground baseboards.

Found 3mm foam between the tiles helps avoid damage when stacked. 😀

Cleaned up the edging and made it a solid colour finally.

Might give the pitch another layer of flocking as the two sides don't quite match.

Is it worth adding a little browning of the turf where the line of scrimmage is as well?

Going a bit deeper with the cracks qnd it's starting to look a little better

Really want to replicate this texture on a dnd gridded board. But it keeps looking like cracked flagstones.

I think I'll just have to accept it as it is.

Seems I jump from one hyperfocus to another.

It was embroidery and now its xps foam terrain building.

Really trying to keep with the current project until completed. It seems like if a project is for someone else I can stuck to it. But for myself ...

The BB pitch is complete and the 2nd iteration of the dugouts is underway.

Realised I could get the markings done on the first half of the pitch.

Not sure if I'll change the yellow end zone. Will give it an extra coat of yellow tomorrow and then decide. The other end I think will be red.

This got used on Thursday and went down well with everyone. Lol ... There were requests for more!!!

Just need the flocking to dry on the right hand board and I can crack on with edging and pitch markings.

While the glue and flock were out I decided to add some to the dugout. Think it finished off the look.

Low energy today ... keeping hands busy sat with boxes full of paints. Picking one of each wash/ink/shade/contrast to compare them. Sample board will happen when my battery recharges.

I think the dugout test piece is done. Enjoyed having quite a small pallet of colours.

Really happy with the wood texture. Came put better than I thought it would.

Work on the test dugout is going good. The re-roll part will be a dirty white like the bed with the blood red recessed details. Keeping a limited palette.

2nd half of the pitch will be glued up in the morning. Really hope I have enough flock to cover it.

Whats the secret to good stone textures when doing terrain? Its all about getting the right rocks.

I think these two have served me well this weekend. Might adopt them into permanent members of the wierd hobby tool family.

Forgot I had started these dungeon tiles after putting them to one side. Took half a pot of mp to seal them.

Think a quick overbrush of a dark grey and light drybrush of light grey will sort them out.

They'll be heading to the DM as well.

Playing around with an offcut of foam and seem to have started a dugout for the BB project.

Need to decide if I make the walls proud of the surface by adding more foam or just carve them?

Looks like I'm making a 3d Bloodbowl pitch. Upscale from 34mm squares to 35mm for ease of construction.

First half just needs to dry and have markings applied.

Finally finished the scatter terrain gift for my son's DnD DM. Lot of lessons learned and I'll be making myself a set next.

All the walls break down into smaller sections.

Having fun making scatter terrain. Worked out paths using 3mm insulation foam sheet. Surprisingly didn't warp when covered in pva which is a big improvement on mdf.

Just came across the idea of a dearman engine. Using liquefied air (nitrogen) to act as a power storage solution rather than batteries. My mind is blown. Seems such a simple solution for a complex issue.

Made a small double sided 12×12 board for my sons DM.

Going to work on some shrubbery for the green side. Left the cobblestone side unfinished so he can colour match to his existing scatter.

Makes a change from the embroidery I've been doing of late.
