The project involves the translation to French of the Pan-African Paediatric Surgery E-learning Programme (PAPSEP) for use in French-speaking African countries, collaborating with 3 French-speaking RCSI students, passionate about global surgery, to review the AI translations for accuracy & clarity.

The study involved semi-structured interviews held with trained health workers in primary healthcare facilities & hospitals, key informant interviews held with Ministry of Health staff at national and district level, NGO and aid donor staff, nursing education managers and nursing students.

Some key findings
-Insufficient funds to hire health workers means many LICs in Africa have unemployed health workers, despite struggling with low health worker density
-Past bilateral health worker migration agreements haven't always provided tangible benefits to countries on the WHO Safeguard list

"Health Workers in Sub-Saharan Africa: Concurrent Skilled Health Worker Shortages and Under-Employment," by Dr Pieternella Pieterse, Research Fellow, has been published in the International Journal of Health Planning and Management.
