A recent thought I had re AI art. AI art will never sneak little easter eggs into a picture or piece of writing. AI written adventure modules will never put movie lines in the book, or have a retired adventurer make a sly allusion to an arrow related knee injury. It can't do the human stuff.

I guarantee that your OSR adventure book will look exponentially cooler and more fun with your crappy stick drawings than with generic AI art pasted all over it.

So I know I say this and it feels like I’m beating a dead horse but - if you’re writing an adventure module or RPG supplement or monster zine and you can’t afford to hire an artist? Draw it yourself.

“But I can’t draw!” I bet you can. I bet you can scribble *something*. Hell, draw stick figures!

every genAI sales pitch basically comes down to 'you don't have to experience anything at all! life can feel like death!'

and I'd say for some reason it works but it isn't working. they WISH it was working and they're begging billions in subsidies to make fetch happen

'you can generate a different ending every time you view a movie!'

'you can have endless text conversations with NPCs in games!'

'you can summarize a novel, you don't have to read it!'

the pitches for genAI really reveal how much the people behind it just... hate art.

TTRPG that are just PDFs are almost all universally priced wrong. We're fucking under charging for the amount of work we do designing games and we collectively need to just start charging more.

If it took you more than an hour to make why arent you charging at least minimum fucking wage?

my only unhinged TTRPG opinion is that I think using the term 'math rocks' makes you sound like a four year old

8) ttrpgs should be at least three times more expensive, like a one-page ttrpg should be $15 minimum

7) the industry in general has an extreme bias against digital only product

The way some people think about pricing in the TTRPG space you’d think this was an actual big industry. It’s not, folks. We’re a niche of a niche.
