I want people to be comfortable paying for an atproto account (ie. space on a PDS)

It’s the bedrock of everything we’re building; if it’s not funded it’ll get squeezed in ways that are bad for users (hi Gmail)

We should normalise having (very cheap) paid-tier PDS accounts on the services we build

Obviously, there are feeds. So many feeds. We've got Atom. We've got RSS (👋🏼 @scripting.com). You want a JSON feed? Oh you know we've got a JSON feed.

And all the autodiscovery metadata is baked right in. Just add atproto.com to your feed reader and you are good to go.

wrote a quick guide to creating a did:web atproto PDS account using goat.

this isn't something I recommend for folks in most cases (did:plc is great!), but I think it is important on principle, and we should test and document it better.

fun fact: one of bluesky's first employees was a twitter engineer named aaron goldman. he was only there for 4 months but in the community matrix chat he mentioned that atproto drew heavily from his phd work, a project named cryptographically curated filesystem
