⚠️ In the last five years, sea level rise has accelerated, and is now increasing at more than double the long-term rate seen since the turn of the twentieth century.

⚠️The amount of CO2 we can emit and still have a good chance of staying within 1.5°C of global warming would be exhausted in a little more than three years if emissions remain at current levels.

Other key findings from this year:

⚠️Record high levels of greenhouse gas emissions are continuing to build up in the atmosphere.

⚠️Warming caused by human activity reached a record 1.36°C in 2024.

The third annual Indicators of Global Climate Change (IGCC) report, coordinated by @piersforster.bsky.social, Director of the @priestleycentre.bsky.social, aims to fill the “information gap” between IPCC reports, providing updates on how human activity is impacting the climate system 🌍

In 2021, @ipcc.bsky.social set out the state of the climate system and the “unequivocal” role of humans in changing it.

Since then, CO2 emissions and global warming have continued and the need for up-to-date and trustworthy information on the climate is more important than ever ❗

⚠️ Global warming caused by humans, the main contributor to 2024’s record temperatures, is advancing at 0.27 °C per decade – the highest rate since records began.
