How much less than $1T is that number? About a trillion dollars less.
And these people are arguing that the US has already brought in *TRILLIONS* (PLURAL) in revenue.
The sheer, monumental scale of the lie is breathtaking to behold.
These people cannot be trusted to give numbers about anything.
So how much tariff revenue did it generate?
Let’s pretend none of it is de minimis and say the average tariff was 30% (again, giving a best case scenario to the argument).
That means - in the best possible scenario - the US has gotten ~$92 billion in tariff revenue.
So TOTAL IMPORTS of Canadian, Mexican & Chinese goods is, very optimistically, for that 8 week period, about $307,000,000,000.00 - still a *huge* amount of money.
11.08.2025 19:15 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0So let’s say, generously, that the Trump Tariffs have been in effect for about 8 weeks on about 30% of all US trade. Let’s also be generous and say 90% of that was imports.
90% of $608G = $548G
30% of $548G = $165G
($165G/30d)*7d*8wks = $306.5G
The “reciprocal” tariffs went into effect for something like 3 days, then had a 90 day pause which ended a day or two ago. Let’s call it another 5 days.
China had *massive* tariffs which essentially drove trade to $0 for a few weeks, but for about 8 weeks has had tariffs of about 20% on most goods
The large scale IEEPA tariffs announced in February against Canada & Mexico were in effect for, generously, 5 days total. Since then anything that qualifies for USMCA has been exempt, which is the VAST majority of the trade there.
11.08.2025 19:15 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0In 2024 the US did $7.3T in trade, globally. Let’s assume that the massive global consumer boycotts in 2025 haven’t put a chunky dent in that number.
That’s ~$608G/mo. That’s a lot of money.
Now, in terms of Tariffs:
I fucking hate the way this admin talks about numbers. *Trillions* in tariffs? Really? TRILLIONS?

I don’t think it’s good that the US isn’t an ICC member, but pretending it is when it isn’t doesn’t actually accomplish anything
I don’t think anyone is ready for the kind of world order we get if it becomes legal again to take and keep land by military force.
10.08.2025 14:49 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0This is well intentioned, but worth noting that due to the constitutional prohibition against double-jeopardy, the US is not a signatory to the ICC.
I think it should suck it up and figure out a way to sign, but the current reality is nevertheless what it is.
