One way I've changed over the years is accepting however folks ride bikes. I don't care what you wear when you ride. I don't care if you slam your stem. I don't care if you use a mirror. I don't care about caps vs hats. I don't care if you ride an e-bike.

As long as you're not a jerk, I don't care.

It’s not perfect, but I commute year round to Sunset Park and this will be the best option. It’s definitely patchy and seems to basically end near the Industry City buildings.

4th Ave bike lane is so terrible that I usually take 5th Ave that has no bike lane. I just take the road.

I don’t disagree, but this is a much better design than the garbage “protected” bike lane on 4th Ave.

It’s “really good” compared to nothing. This is a three lane road in an industrial part of Brooklyn. There are ghost bikes all over this part of town.

I used this bike lane several times a week. It will be missed by a lot of people.

Sometimes you’ll see the 15th driver in line at a red light just honking their horn. Is this just an expression of their frustration? In a perfect world what do they hope to accomplish by doing this? What’s the best case scenario?

Electric cars are an attractive solution because they basically allow somebody else to fix it & most people to carry on largely as they were before. The problem is that they still pollute (albeit less), still require massive amounts of land, still endanger other road users, etc. We need fewer cars.

I was never able to max out my IRA the entire time I owned a car. I’ve been able to each of the last 12 years after going car free.

Also, these payments are going towards an asset that is rapidly depreciating every day.

These are personal vehicles. They arrive at work and take their plates off. The NYPD couldn’t care less because they are preoccupied with issuing summonses for not having a bell on your bike or some shit.

Don’t forget to completely remove your license plates if you plan to park your vehicles on the sidewalk all day. Cops are powerless against this tactic apparently because I see this all the time.

We need to build some real social stigma around being afraid of cities. You don't have to like them or live there, but a politics built this strongly around watching TV and going "ewww" is embarrassing, and people should be embarrassed by it. It's like "fear of werewolves" being your top issue.
