Well I am not well behaved!

Brit-Canadian archivist-librarian, government records and local history museum staffer, trad-classical musician, post-academic philosophy PhD (on Augustine), and other hyphenated things. Can't help it: so much to learn.
Well I am not well behaved!
25.10.2025 17:15 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0We need permanent rental places, as millions will never afford a home. In Europe people rent the same place for their entire lives without feelng they are there on sufferance. The human need for roots is ignored at our peril.
25.10.2025 16:01 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Well there are interesting spiritual implications here.
24.10.2025 15:22 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The end of that film was searing, where tbey showed the reality outside her head. Really made you think.
24.10.2025 14:17 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I certainly will. Might even make a special trip!
24.10.2025 14:00 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'd love to drop by someday.
24.10.2025 13:53 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Chinese-Canadian anesthesiologists ways treat with deadly seriousness my concern for protecting the vocal tract during intubation. "She is a singer" at the top of my chart. Might have something to do with every Chinese-Canadian doctor I know being an accomplished musician.
24.10.2025 13:52 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Me almost every morning and I theoretically have a meaningful job.
24.10.2025 13:43 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Monkey!
23.10.2025 21:13 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0We have numerous demolitions of beautiful (or at least characterful) old buildings in my area, and I often wonder what the bulldozer guy is thinking as he crashes through walls.
22.10.2025 22:07 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yes rather horrible. Apparently the head did some rolling.
22.10.2025 20:52 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This is a copy of a death mask decorating the county jail. The fellow's head popped off as a result of the only public hanging in the county. (That really happened.) Haunting began when the mask was removed and stopped when it was put back (legend).
22.10.2025 16:35 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0At Oxford County (Ontario) for regional archivists' meeting and ran into some great folklore. The old county building (ca. 1890) sports random monkey grotesques. Legend has it they represent ten councillors the builders disliked or are the result of a curse.
22.10.2025 15:41 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 1 π 1Lovely little stone walking bridge near Hamilton, Ontario. My city would have this down in a hot second.
21.10.2025 18:15 β π 30 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0I still struggle with shutting up as a government employee, having at one time been encouraged to think and speak.
19.10.2025 19:13 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I am looking forward to general anesthesia on Thursday because I won't have to be in traffic or think about traffic. Blessed oblivion.
19.10.2025 17:56 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Remember how it used to go white?
18.10.2025 13:43 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0??
18.10.2025 13:24 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0And you really do feel you know them, sometimes better than some people in their own lives did...
15.10.2025 21:16 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Good. They are paid abysmally. I've stopped even looking at their job postings.
15.10.2025 21:14 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Since when does anyone consult us?
15.10.2025 21:11 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Post of the year.
15.10.2025 11:21 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yes, cut, paste, hit publish - whoops how did that happen?
When I was an undergrad we were given to understand that plagiarism could cost you your job but this lady continued to get paid more than I did and sailed into retirement.
Luckily it was a work blog and the offender was local government too. My boss threatened their boss with our legal team. They took it down but said it was a "mistake" and I should be "flattered." It felt like theft and I'm not flattered when someone steals my car. Very disappointing attitude.
15.10.2025 11:16 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I had someone copy a whole blog post I wrote word for word. They only changed out the pictures to be of their institution.
15.10.2025 02:50 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yes!
14.10.2025 16:09 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0First encore at the Ronn McFarlane-Paul O'Dette lute duo recital today: John Dowland's "My Lord Chamberlain, His Galliard" - for two people to play on a single lute. And I thought playing piano, four hands, was tricky to coordinate!
13.10.2025 00:44 β π 22 π 7 π¬ 0 π 0I find a friend or coworker with a friend or coworker who has access to journals to get stuff for me. Out of luck for books, unless internet archive hasn't locked it down or I buy them. Also use nefarious methods. Feels diminishing. People besides academics are capable of serious research.
13.10.2025 19:02 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This is terrific. A great profile of Great Lakes shipping (and mandatory reminiscence on the Edmund Fitzgerald) featuring my all time favorite freighter, one Iβve seen dozens of times, the still hardworking βantiqueβ steamship Wilfred Sykes. Gift article.
