In a way, I find the authoritarian takeover of our media system even more disturbing than the authoritarian takeover of our political system.

Our political system has been failing basically my entire adult life. But, the media system provided accountability and sort of worked. Now it’s collapsing.

SNAP This section uses the outdated term “food stamps” to refer to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. Specifically, the section seeks to: Increase work requirements for able-bodied adults without dependents by only allowing waivers if the state’s unemployment rate is above 6 percent for more than 24 months and disallowing long-standing state flexibility to calculate the local unemployment rate. Eliminate categorical eligibility, which would remove the state options of increasing gross income eligibility from 130 percent to 200 percent of the federal poverty level and increasing/removing the asset limit. Roll back the updates to the Thrifty Food Plan that modernized the SNAP benefits formula after decades of being connected to metrics and nutritional guidance from the 1960s. Eliminate the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and create a national standardized utility allowance for households with low incomes.

New maps would deny racial minority voters a realistic opportunity of electing their preferred candidate, with Florida, Louisiana, Georgia, Missouri, North Carolina, and Texas possibly ending up with fewer Democratic representatives in Congress. Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Tennessee could lose all of theirs, the report finds. And as much as 30% of the Congressional Black Caucus and 11% of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus could also be lost. It is not out of the realm of possibility that Republicans would cement one-party control of the House for at least a generation, according to Cliff Albright, co-founder and executive director of the Black Voters Matter Fund.

This is the part that I think most white voters on the left don't understand. They don't grasp that the fight is never over.

White America, as a demographic, has been trying to overturn the Voting Rights Act since its inception. They have never wanted us to have equity or power in this country.
