The results of the first round in Romania's elections, with the fascist Călin Georgescu in pole position, can turn into a disaster. Romania is not US, with old and strong institutions that can oppose the dictatorship. Ukraine and all of Europe will also suffer if the nightmare becomes reality.

These embittered Putinists or Trumpists are in fact to be pitied. I watch them storm on Bluesky too, with the sole purpose of spewing their bitterness on people who just want peace and quiet. It's a great sadness in their lives. But, on the other hand, you have to be a saint to be able to bear them.

Mă, subdezvoltatule, știi care e deosebirea dintre noi? Eu am o viață excelentă, cu tot ce-mi trebuie, de aia îl urăsc pe Putin: că mi-o poate distruge. Tu ești un nimic, muritor de foame, de aia visezi la Putin: să te salveze. Ghinion: ratarea e din vina ra, nimeni nu te salvează.

Mă, neomule, când văd niște bieți ratați care și-au distrus viața și nu mai au nici o speranță, mi-e milă. Când însă ratații ăștia mai visează doar să vină Putin să le dea și lor un rost în viață, râd. Deci continuă, inutilule, e duminică și vreau să râd bine.

If I had read that such a government was put in place in a small third world country, I'd have been stunned, dismayed, and probably I'd have forgotten about it in one week. But when it comes to the US government, I'm horrified. I'm not American. I'm Eastern European and I'm absolutely horrified.

I think/hope they've seen already where rational people are headed and will turn their attention to bsky.

The great danger that Trump poses is the discrediting of international treaties and pacts. This may indeed make way for a new world order, one of chaos from which only disasters can emerge. That's why EU leaders have a huge responsibility in the coming years, which I hope they realize.
