Can the clean-energy revolution save us from climate catastrophe? Seven charts show the remarkable growth in renewable power and the challenges to ending the fossil-fuel age.

In light of yesterday's EPA news, some broader and slightly brighter context, from Jeff Tollefson:

No, I entirely understand the point. The Exoplanet Imaging Group and Twitter/Bluesky are not mutually exclusive. As Matt described, the former preceded the latter but is still much more open than a pvt Discord server: yet we didn't even have coverage there.

I like our Exoplanet Imaging FB group.

I would have done talk updates there at least for the latter half of the conference but had to deal with giant bout of crazy thrown at me/my postdoc and couldn't get to it.

Maybe we can start a thread on new SoL 6 results there?

The bipartisan bill funding NASA & NSF -- rejecting proposed catastrophic cuts -- has been signed into law.

This summer, I saw that the most left-leaning Democrats to hard-right Republicans in Congress agree on little yet both see the value of astro & planetary science. I hope support continues.

Plot of science agency staffing over 10 years shows the numbers fall off a cliff in 2024-25.

Plot of science agency staffing over 10 years shows the numbers fall off a cliff in 2024-25.

The whole story is worth reading, but I want to highlight this plot of science agency staffing that we pulled together from historic and current data.

It shows that cuts to science staffing are almost uniformly steep across the board and unlike anything seen in the first Trump administration.

Lucy's Taqueria in Hilo, Hawaii.

Simple, cheap but excellent. Great quesadillas and margaritas. For a while, I probably ate there at least once a week. Closed because hardworking owner decided to retire.

my personal choice for "series that got better with each season" is Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Also, TNG except that Season 7 was clearly not as good as 3-6.
