This is bleak: Jes Staley, currently CEO of Barclays, reassuring Epstein that popular revolt against financial elites is unlikely because capitalism and pop culture have defanged social movements, leaving people more invested in consumption than justice.

i took 10 years off art because working while disabled didn’t afford me the extra energy or desire to make art.

not sure what exactly i would’ve personally gotten out of prompting a plagiarism machine during that time…

it’s getting an order fulfilled, not making something myself.

Sodom Meteor Strike Claims Should Be Taken with a Pillar of Salt | Skeptical Inquirer On September 20, 2021, the open access journal Scientific Reports posted a paper titled β€œA Tunguska Sized Airburst Destroyed Tall el-Hammam a Middle Bronze ...

A lot of credit goes to @elisabethbik.bsky.social who discovered the image tampering within a few days of the paper's publication in 2021. In my opinion this made its retraction inevitable. skepticalinquirer.org/2021/12/sodo...

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientistβ€”because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

You're absolutely right – this actually *isn't* a place of honor.
* I thought esteemed deeds were commemorated here, but that was wrong.
* The message wasn't about treasure, it was about danger. That's on me.
* I won't sugarcoat it – the danger is still present, and now it's in your body.

With the optimizations I've got coming down the pipeline, we're looking at ~1.6x speedup across the whole simulation from switching out a few functions, and that's *after* all the native Python optimizations we've already done!

In response to the query 'rust how to make left side of range not inclusive', an automated 'search assist' AI prompt responds "In Rust, you can create a range that is not inclusive on the left side by using the .. syntax. For example, 1..5 creates a range that includes values from 1 up to, but not including, 5". This is the way to create a range that is non-inclusive on the *right* side, and the response is wrong and stupid

Duke professor Dan Ariely had longstanding friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, newly released files show Ariely is named in 636 of the some 3 million newly released files. He was a prominent professor at Duke over the course of his correspondence with Epstein.

... wherein we learn that studying ethics isn’t the same as having them. Shock, surprise. Not.

OpenClaw is interesting, but will also drain your wallet if you aren't careful.
Last night around midnight I loaded my Anthropic API account with $20, then went to bed.
When I woke up, my Anthropic balance was $O.
Opus was checking "is it daytime yet?" every 30 minutes, paying $0.75 each time to conclude "no, it's still night."
Doing literally nothing, OpenClaw spent the entire balance. How?

The "Heartbeat" cron job, even though literally the only thing I had going was one silly reminder, ("remind me tomorrow to get milk")
1. Sent ~120,000 tokens of context to Opus
4.5
2. Opus read HEARTBEAT md, thought about reminders
3. Replied "HEARTBEAT_OK"
4. Cost: ~$0.75 per heartbeat (cache writes)
The damage:
- Overnight = ~25+ heartbeats
- 25 Γ— $0.75 = ~$18.75 just from heartbeats alone
- Plus regular conversation = ~$20 total
The absurdity: Opus was essentially checking
"is it daytime yet?" every 30 minutes, paying $0.75 each time to conclude "no, it's still night."

Lyrics, reading, "My eyes have seen the glory of the city that won’t fall,

Seen it shelter in its bosom hunted children, big and small;

I have seen the hunters pushed back and spat on in front of all,

The city's standing strong.

Glory, glory, hallelujah,

Glory, glory, hallelujah,

Glory, glory, hallelujah,

The city's standing strong.

George, roused from gentle slumber by his vine and his fig tree,

Saw fresh tyrants threaten terror, ached to call out for a steed,

Then he saw that Minneapolis held firm in thought and deed,

And proudly he smiled on.

Glory, glory, hallelujah,

Glory, glory, hallelujah,

Glory, glory, hallelujah,

So proudly he smiled on.

As Abe stood deep in grieving by the million Union men,

Voiceless now to move the living to beat evil back again,

The songs of Minnesota soothed his soul with their refrainβ€”

Friend Abe, they carry on.

Glory, glory, hallelujah,

Glory, glory, hallelujah,

Glory, glory, hallelujah,

Yes, Abe, they carry on."

There to welcome the new martyrs with tears running down his cheeks,

And he told them β€œLay your burdens at your brethren’s tireless feet,

For, look, they carry on.”

Glory, glory, hallelujah,

Glory, glory, hallelujah,

Glory, glory, hallelujah,

Yes, still they carry on.

In the whirlwind stand two women who well know their time is here:

One is blind, the other bloodied, yet they know no pain nor fear;

One holds sword and one holds flameβ€”their blazing promise perseveres:

For all they shall stand strong.

Glory, glory, hallelujah,

Glory, glory, hallelujah,

Glory, glory, hallelujah,

By them we shall stand strong."
