This is something I didn't learn until middle school, during a class outdoor party when I finally stopped pretending to like sports & just chose an activity for my own joy (sit on the sidewalk & draw a detailed chalk drawing). I was shocked when other students were interested and wanted to join in.

In grad school I used Read&Write Gold (an accessibility tool) to read my readings to me out loud when I had piles of reading to do. My eyes would get tired and painful after staring at screens too long, but hearing it read aloud really helped me process. I even used it to listen while on long drives

Highly recommend trying the music league app, it's a fun blend of "make everyone listen to the songs I love" and "discover new music I would never have tried otherwise". We have such a musically diverse group but they all have such good taste! some favs so far linked below

Day 3 of a broken A/C during the heat wave in Indiana. The cats, who usually disappear to their various nap spots, are sprawled out under the living room fan. Placing bets on how many times we have to call maintenance before our management company agrees to replace the ~25 yr old failing unit 🫠

I resisted the demons and stayed up until 9:30 pm 🥱 I have never been so excited to go to bed

But while trying to stay awake we found the best lasagna I've ever had in my life - if you're in Helsinki, go try La Lasagna, the staff are lovely and the food brought me to hangry sleep deprived tears

Me: You have to stay awake until nighttime so you don't feel like trash all week on this trip

Also me: But I could just take an hour nap? Just a little one? Just a quick snooze?

A lot of assumptions baked in when we expect everyone is able to sit in a chair upright for hours on end without fidgeting or stretching to perform "paying attention" in a zoom square.
I am 3 hrs into a 6 hr meeting and if I didn't periodically shut off my video to rest, my back would be screaming

I know we already had these conversations at the peak of zoom pandemic use, but feels like some people did not learn the lessons about the accessibility concerns that "everyone must have their cameras on" brings to a meeting situation.

I am so obsessed with the murderbot books (currently listening to #6 on GraphicAudio) and now absolutely loving the show and how faithful it is to the energy of the books. Highly recommend either/both!

We were saying goodbye to my 2 yr old nephew after meeting up for breakfast, and as we're walking away my spouse throws up a peace sign and says "Peace!"

Nephew excitedly throws his little hand in the air (all five fingers splayed) and calls back "Two!!!"

(we are fine, our loved ones are fine, but several homes and businesses in the south part of town have been damaged and destroyed. We were very lucky)

There's just something really kind and special about everyone in town hopping onto Bluesky to check in with this one very knowledgeable guy, and the fact that he can keep his community safe and informed even an ocean away. Feels like that is the kind of lovely little thing social media is made for

Tornadoes in Bloomington tonight. Feeling extra grateful for this little community, because there's an atmospheric scientist who lives in town who always posts on here to update all the locals with precise warning info. He's on vacation abroad but stayed up late to keep us informed anyway 👑🙌

Yeah, no. I'm not paying you even MORE money for an already artificially inflated flight price, as a reward for your faulty purchasing system. I'll just listen to an audio book and drive my own damn self.

About to just drive the eight hours to go see my friends next week, because Southwest airlines is so deeply infuriating. Tried to book a flight yesterday, system was down with vague error messaging. Sat on hold, got a customer rep to put a 24hr hold on my flight. Wake up this morning, flight is gone

That is fair! That's my issue with it too - the muscle mass vs. body fat and general cardio health is much more interesting to me as a health goal than the scale number. But yeah, healthcare $$$ is a nightmare 😮‍💨

I try to be a body-positive doctor. It's getting harder in the age of Ozempic A physician decided to stop talking to patients about weight, and focus on health instead. But the new weight-loss drugs forced her to rethink how to help patients without feeding into stigma.

The article linked does a nice job of explaining the author's approach in more detail. BMI obsession obscures a lot of other health issues and doctors end up ignoring everything in favor of "just lose weight!" My dad's MS went misdiagnosed for years because of this.
