I struggle with how easily our society accepts the mistreatment of fellow human beings—especially by those who claim to follow Jesus. Some argue that the government shouldn’t be expected to uphold Christian values, yet in the next breath, they push for a “Christian nation.” Which is it?

When was the last time you invited an immigrant to your table? How often do you use Google Translate to start a conversation? When was the last time you hugged someone because they missed their parent? When was the last time you read the story of the Good Samaritan?

I grew up in an Amish Mennonite family, where hard work was a way of life. Do you know who works even harder? Immigrants.
I was working with a friend & someone mentioned their work ethic. I said, "I know, I am Amish & they kick my butt." If immigrants are lazy, why is ICE raiding workplaces?

It’s heartbreaking how much misinformation is spread about immigrants "draining our resources." The truth is, one cannot receive food stamps or federal aid without proper documentation. This myth needs to stop.

When I read The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas by Le Guin, I was curious about how casually we see suffering and justify it for the benefit of others. Is there a connection between the way Xtians see suffering & the glorification of the crucifixion? For the world to be right, is a scapegoat needed?

That year I also became close friends with grief. The questioning never really ended and Grief and I are solid friends. I think I will need the wisdom of both of these friends in 2025.

25 years ago today I was at a funeral (it was beyond tragic) while holding the worries of Y2K. Every Christian in my world was convinced the world would end, yet we slid into the new year with no end-of-the-world drama, just holding grief. That year I started questioning this faith I inherited.
