Tomorrow, Dawn
by Sascha Stronach Terau Farm used to grow half the colony’s wheat. That’s what made it first an objective, then – as it changed hands again and again and again – a target. If it could not be held,…
alright it's here, the short story where I poured all my disappointments in 'hopepunk' as a concept, and tried to write what I thought when I first heard the term, which electrified me with its promise, a promise I found unfulfilled

This is still my advice: Become a writer anyway. Fuck it, do it, it won't save you, but it's still a beautiful dream to write novels and short stories and poems and mingle with other dreamers and make art and laugh in the face of death. And writing is constant death. Live más.

anyway, it got me thinking about my book purchasing habits, and how I should try and read more current books - but then I thought, no: secondhand books are where the heat’s at

i went to vote in the goodreads choice awards then realised i couldn't, because i've barely read any books published this year. this is a side effect of my stubborn refusal to read hardbacks and my strong preference for buying secondhand, even if it means waiting a while

I don't talk to anyone besides my partner about writing because I am TERRIFIED of how it might feel if I never manage to publish anything - I figure I'll just tell people I write if I actually have a published work they can read - so here I am, screaming into the blue sky void: I HIT 25K!!!!!!

it's felt like a slog. I didn't anticipate how long it would take me to crank out 1667 words every day, but then a couple of days ago I got over 20,000, and my tracking spreadsheet said I only had 30,000 words left, and I was like oh shit maybe this is actually doable

anyway, I'm trying to write 50,000 words in november (no, there is no name or company associated with this challenge and never was) and last night I hit 25,000 words

I like to keep aspects of my online presence very siloed. instagram = too many real people I know, tumblr = where I go to be anonymously cringe about fandom stuff, facebook = somewhere I only visit once a year to sell stuff on marketplace

generally I think I need to stay off social media, but I'm in need of a place to dump about my writing a bit, and bluesky seems promising

The insistence on "likeable characters" has really messed up novels, which are obviously best when narrated by a weird little delusional freak
