Accidentally snapped this photo the other day. Thought it looked spiffy…

I don't think those feelings ever subside completely but there's definitely comfort and calm that comes from accepting your truth and knowing the people who remain by your side and meet in the future, love you because you are "you" (and not because you're someone you're just pretending to be).

It's not easy ignoring the pressure to conform.

I imagine we all have similar feelings when finally coming out of our unique closets. Fear and anxiety and then later relief and strength.

Many of us are hiding in a variety of "closets" for a variety of reasons (not just being gay) - the shame of not living up to the expectations of family, friends, religion or community.

I think it's why politicians who remain in the closet, like Lindsey Graham, are the way they are. They've chosen to hide an important part of themselves, which reflects in the hurt they unleash on themself and everyone around them.

I came out of the closet when I was 16.

Acknowledging I was gay was survival - I recognized the choice - either accept the life I was given or kill that part of me. It's something I was lucky to learn early in life.

Six months…(continuing to fill in)

It’s kind’ve a dark thought but something I’ve always appreciated about sci-fi is it explores these humbling possibilities.

Perhaps the harmony in the universe is that nothing lasts forever.

Maybe it’s possible for that lifeform to evolve out of that aggression once they’re spacefaring. But evolution takes a long time and I think most probably destroy themselves before they get to that point.

Because that advanced tech requires extracting the natural resources from their planet (oil, minerals) that unavoidably also destroys that planet and the life that inhabits it. It requires a lifeform that’s predatory toward all life they believe is less intelligent or weaker than them.
