Cosmic rays generate beryllium-7 in the stratosphere. The figure shows the global atmospheric circulation cells like Hadley cell and Ferrel cell. These transport beryllium-7 down toothed Earth surface where it observed by radioactivity sensors.

New study: near-surface beryllium-7 could be used to predict the upcoming phase of #ENSO (El Niño Southern Oscillation), see doi.org/10.1016/j.je..., and to predict onset of #monsoon, see www.nature.com/articles/s41...
