Today in 1943βmore than two years before V-E Day and the defeat of Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germanyβthe Manhattan Projectβs Military Policy Committee eliminated Germany as the target of the still-unproven atomic bomb, selecting the Japanese fleet at Truk Lagoon in the Pacific Ocean as the best target.
