The morning sounding (from Tropical Tidbits, 12Z 1 Feb 3-km NAM forecast for 14Z today) exhibiting backed within within near saturated air (also depicted in Dylan's composites) behind the departing cyclone and beneath subsidence and dry air aloft. A beautiful snow, but not always easy to forecast!

Today's Mohawk-Hudson convergence (MHC) snowfall in the Capital Region was a tricky forecast, but the sea-level pressure composite for cold-season MHC (created by UAlbany student Dylan Card) is nearly identical to this morning's SLP / geostrophic NE flow (from @burgwx.bsky.social's polarwx.com).

Especially because more often than not these days, extreme cold forecast in the medium-range just doesn't come to fruition (I don't think that's just anecdotal, either?).

These are all gorgeous; it was such a beautiful year above the horizon!
