I think there are jobs, such as taxi driver, where the required skill set is clearly definable. Being able to operate a motor vehicle, for example.

But for most other jobs the factors that lead some to be high achievers are far more mysterious.

I suspect that scandals fall hardest on incumbents. To be clear I suspect Badenoch will emerge victorious eventually but why any politician or party wins is always a mix of things rather than any one thing.

Starmer has something like a 30% approval rating right now so disentangling how much advantage Badenoch can wring out of this is going to be very difficult to separate from the incumbent's general unpopularity.

The argument that the only people qualified to fill a position are those with specific and exacting qualifications is specious. In fact studies have shown that the highest performing "super predictors" tend to be generalists with a wide base of knowledge. If that's your argument I'm not impressed.
