Opinion | We Have to Look Right in the Face of What We Have Become

Great piece by @jamellebouie.net on the need for ICE hearings. Get it all out there. www.nytimes.com/2026/02/11/o...

There's just nothing new in finance, is there? The idea here is the same one as behind synthetic CDOs. See scene in The Big Short with Richard Thaler and Selena Gomez

Sometimes very hard not to feel like the rest of the country has abandoned Minnesota. We STILL have ICE everywhere. Our schools, businesses, and economy are in profound crisis. But without Bovino here throwing tear gas, much of the country seems to not care at all what’s being done to us.

Mark Hamer, #2 at DOJ antitrust, quits.

Mark Hamer, #2 at DOJ antitrust, quits.

MAGA lobbyists are demanding that Trump's antitrust division settle the monopolization case against Live Nation/Ticketmaster. The top lawyers in the department don't want to do it. So now the #2 at DOJ Antitrust just quit.

I think the answer to this is: when the media reports on what Republicans say they want, many Republican voters say β€œwell I don’t want that” and they trust their self perception over the actual words and deeds of Republican officials and assume the media is lying bsky.app/profile/jame...

Post moans about the evisceration of science and rationalism from government while eviscerating a tool (serious journalism) for preserving the integrity of government.

Opinion | The Finance Industry Is a Grift. Let’s Start Treating It That Way.

Oren Cass, conservative thinker, parrots back what lefty thinkers have be writing about for over a decade: yes, financialization sucks.

Going to talk about how the Trump admin is enabling it? You won't find that here. www.nytimes.com/2026/02/06/o...

Author here ... Didn't have the space for everything. Dig into the legal documents and you find implications that his father was bought off somehow. Still being litigated. Very murky.

Circling Sharks - The American Prospect A look inside the athlete-finance industry, which resembles predatory lendingβ€”and worse

One of my favorite pieces from our sports issue is out today.
A new breed of financiers targets young athletes, typically Spanish-speaking, offering sketchy contracts with up-front money in exchange for a large cut of future earnings. Several players have sued. @carterd.bsky.social reports:

It's obvious to many people who nevertheless make money off of it.

Amazing. If a professional wrestling crowd is chanting "fuck ICE," it suggests to me that large swaths of the culture are not just upset over ICE tactics, they're coalescing against mass deportations as a broader ideological project.

Minnesota CEOs Cry Crocodile Tears Over ICE - The American Prospect Executives who lobbied for Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which enabled the immigration terror in their state, now want everyone to believe they are on the people’s side.

The weak "deesclation of tensions" letter from large Minnesota businesses elides how instrumental they were in the creation of Operation Metro Surge, through public support & active lobbying for the Big Beautiful Bill that allocated $170 billion for mass deportation.

You can see these "scoops" coming a mile away ... "Teen ostracized for talking about sex as biology!" ... "Man persecuted on social media for standing up for Israel" etc. It'll be like Fox News, with a veneer of intellect.

Contributor: The weird bipartisan alliance to cap credit card rates is onto something Consumer credit is less expensive elsewhere in the world because of greater competition and tougher regulation.

There is a rare, bipartisan opportunity to challenge the Visa-Mastercard duopoly and make credit cards cheaper.

Read about it in this piece from Demand Progress’s @carterd.bsky.social in the @latimes.com
